Crouching Tiger Hidden Error

I have used DVD Shrink to rip Crouching Tiger to HD and when I try to burn with CloneDVD it gives the error:

unable to open video files
DVDManager 1

I am going to try this with DVD Decrypter while I wait to see if there is an answer.

---

Tried DVD Decrypter and stupidly extracted to ISO and then realised CloneDVD couldn't process from ISO (Doh!) so I finally figured out I had to select File Mode and alter the settings to all files,

CloneDVD still gives out the same error so this looks like a film CloneDVD cannot process for some reason [Olli?]

to get round this CloneDVD problem I have ripped with DVD Shrink choosing just the main movie, and burned with Copy2DVD,

found I had to leave the Chinese Audio in there or the English wouldn't play,

this is the first DVD I have come across that wouldn't read with CloneDVD aftre ripping with DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter,

I have this movie and will try decrypter....wait

...and CloneDVD can write from an .ISO

[edit]

wifey is doing up a CV on the laptop, so I won't have access to the writer 'til tomorrow but I can post the write log when done.

yes I appreciate CloneDVD will write from ISO but it won't Transcode from ISO, and anyway I would expect the same problem reading from the ISO as reading from the two versions I ripped with DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink, after all it's still the same files,

CloneDVD will transcode from ISO, if you use VirtualCloneDrive or Daemon Tools.

I have Daemon Tools loaded and never thought of using that (Doh!)

Olli,

can you get hold of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon? I don't know what the problem is but it may come up with other Titles, and can you tell me what the error means?

Mmmm, I can't get CloneDVD to start writing....
The files work very well in PowerDVD.
I have a 4,544,780 KB VOB and nine IFOs

I think I'll try an .IFO rip

[edit]

nope, only one IFO where all are needed

[/edit]

well at least it's not something I did

I had no trouble ripping it, or even burning it to play in my DVD ROM or Standalone using CopyToDVD, I just couldn't get CloneDVD to do anything with it,

here was the ripping info I got, don't know if you can see any difference?

I can't get CloneDVD to either write or open the files. Just did a complete rip and CloneDVD tells me
Quote:
Error opening video files from M:\crouching3\VIDEO_TS DVDManager 1"
1st case: error as above
2nd case: error as above
3rd case - Source: DVD Movie files; Output method: DVD Writer > it advances to the write screen and nothing happens

DVD Decrypter has placed the main movie of six .VOB files (VTS_01_x.VOB, where x=0 to 5) into one .VOB (VTS_01_1.VOB).

Sound and visual quality is superb, I just can't write! Trying again...wasn't there a post about renaming files...

hmmm I would be more interested how you did DVD movie files to DVD Writer (even though it wouldn't work) need an extra beta tester Olli

have you tried ripping to ISO and mounting with Daemon Tools? I mean, it's not going to work, but you gotta try everything.

I am now stumped. I have ripped every way known and no luck. But the files play in PowerDVD!
Any difference if you use the SlySoft tool?

SlySoft?

I am ripping it to ISO from both my Pioneer 106D (even though I get region mismatch due to unpatched firmware) and my Toshiba 1402 (and if my LiteOn 165H turns up today I will try that too)

I will edit this message and post results later.

---

OK if I create an ISO usind Decrytper from my Writer (rips at dog slow 2x) then load into Daemon Tools, CloneDVD gives the same error when trying to process,

however if I tell clone to just write the ISO it doesn't give an error, even though the ISO is way too big for the Disc it is writing to!

SlySoft

I was planning to mail you separately because it didn't work.

The product is enabled, it 'grays out' as it does its thing and then I go to choose the path and I get this:

I then try Gladiator, or any other DVD I care to grab, to check that it's working and of course, it does.

OK if I decrypt the full DVD to ISO then use DVD Shrink to take out only the Movie CloneDVD will write it.

I could probably just use DVD Shrink to take the movie from DVD and work it from there but I had already ripped to ISO and failed to get CloneDVD to write, so the next thing is to try to Decrypt only the movie with both Shrink and Decrypter.

I just ripped the English only via DVDShrink and I got the "DVDManager 1" write error.

Trying Chinese and English now

...could it be that the Disc being Region 2 AND 4 is the problem?

Well, I'll be...

Damnest thing. Author it in DVD Shrink, leave Chinese in and CloneDVD will write it! Try just English and it won't write...

...anyone got Romeo Must Die? It's also Region 2 & 4 in Australia (an NTSC, rather than PAL, too)

But RIP the whole movie with Shrink or Decrypter and CloneDVD won't touch it!

I was coming to the Chinese audio problem, way of thinking myself wierd eh?

I think the Audio takes most of its content from the Chinese Stream and then just the speech from the English one,

There's something else, not sure, 'cos I don't know what I'm looking at in an .IFO or .VOB

I know it's something else because I have another tool that works with CloneDVD and Clone can't open the disc using this tool.

We'll just have to sit back and wait a while, it won't be too long mind you I want my old avatar back soon
