CloneDVD Mobile Suggestion

It would be most useful if the program could transcode audio instead of just piping the AC-3 on in. Like AutoGk does...Transocde the audio from AC-3 to MP3 with the bitrate the user;s choice. These are going to portable units and keeping the AC-3 is a waste of space. FFmpeg can do this.

Re: CloneDVD Mobile Suggestion

space....why have 500 megs of audio when you can have 100 or less...you can't tell the difference with earbuds on between ac3 at 448 kpbs or mp3 at 128...just space saving that is all. and it is well worth it. Would put this product over the top

sounds like a good suggestion to me. it works on the portable device, but compressing the audio would leave more space for greater quality video (or if you keep the video quality the same it decreases the size of the file overall)

seems to me like a desirable feature for a portable device.

i don't have clonedvdmobile since i don't really use my portable devices for anything besides mp3s so I don't know what its capability is in that sense, but in defense of the original poster, if i were watching movies on my ipod or something, i'd certainly want the program to do what was suggested!

Re: CloneDVD Mobile Suggestion

Since Dolby is already compressed by definition, would'nt further compression affect its integrity? Also, there may be strict (specifications) licensing rules issues ... no trancoding or alterations allowed(?) by software vendors or disk manufacturers ... unsure on both points.

Re: CloneDVD Mobile Suggestion

sure it would be further compressed, but really, who cares on a pair or earbuds...integrity is fine will still play. This is what AutoGK does and has been doing so for years. Since this stuff is ripped anyway I doubt the licensing thing is something people think about, and being located in Antigua I don't think slysoft cares ;-)

As a work around though you can load AC-3 Filter, AC-3 ACM (for 5.1 sources), and Lame MP3 ACM on your machine. Then open up the CloneDVD Mobile made video file with AC-3 in it in Virtualdub. Choose direct stream copy for video and full processing mode for audio. Then under audio choose Compression, and then the MP3 bitrate you want...say 128. Then File Save AVI....audio is untouched and AC-3 changes to MP3..all done.

A bit of a pain, but I think this is a way useful feature for this prog...they make it and more will buy. AC-3 is just a waste on a portable device that is DivX and XviD compliant. If it is not DivX or XviD compliant then AC-3 is needed, so the user will need to know their portable's specs.

Just a thought....it is reasonable?

Re: CloneDVD Mobile Suggestion

no it does not....it will keep whatever the audio stream is and with DVD that is AC-3. So when you make your video via CloneDVD Mobile you get AC-3 as audio, it just passes it along.

Re: CloneDVD Mobile Suggestion

well MY MISTAKE SORRY!!!!

I loaded up Gspot and it is MP3 128 kbps....I was duped by the fact that when you run the program it identifies the audio as AC-3 and does not tell you anywhere it is making mp3. So my apologies to all here and Slysoft. However it should be noted somewhere that it is converting to MP3 and may user choice of bitrate?

again sorry but it was not evident to me. Thanks to Tru for making me thinkg twice.
