CloneDVD/AnyDVD problem

Yesterday I installed CloneDVD and AnyDVD. The previous day, my DVD-ROM was working fine. After installing CloneDVD and AnyDVD, when I put any type of CD in my DVD-ROM drive, it makes sort of a thrashing noise, and no CD's can be recognized. My CD burner works just fine though. I have tried uninstalling both programs, it still didnt work. I reinstalled, and it still did not work. Windows doesnt detect any hardware errors, so I was wondering if this was a software problem, or my DVD-ROM has just broke on coinicdence. I am running XP Home, with an LG 8X DVD-ROM and LG 52X24X52X burner (which works!) if this helps.

Unusual. Can you swap it into another machine?

any dvd problem

I had a similar experience (xp 1600+, 768 ddr, dvd/vdr combo, xp home).
After installing any dvd, it replaced my teac driver and would only recognize dvd's.
It wouldn"t play audio cd's or vcd's or allow windows explorer to open a data disk.
I have since uninstalled any dvd, removed the remains from windows program files, removed the any dvd driver fom windows system 32 drivers file.
Then I uninstalled my combo drive, then let windows do an add new hardware. This reinstalled my orinal drivers and I could play everything again.
Now I am using dvd region free to play overseas dvds, and I am using dvd shrink to remove encryption when I want to a back up a dvd, and then I just use clone dvd to burn the resulting files to make a new dvd. Yesterday I backed up a 6.38 gb dvd to one disc using this method and there was no loss of quality.
Hope this helps.
Regards Merv

Wouldn't it be easier to just deactivate AnyDVD for this drive when it's not needed?

re any dvd

Hi,
Unfortunately you just "can't close" any dvd. Once installed it takes over as the installed driver for your cd/dvd drive.
It also puts its own driver into the windows/system32/drivers file and even if you uninstall any dvd, the driver and the the slysoft folder (in program files) remain behind. So you have to go in and delete that folder and driver manually.
After you have done all that, uninstall your cd/dvd, then go to Add new hardware. Allow windows to detect your drive again and it will re-install the old drivers, so then your back to a clean slate.
DVD Shrink, used in combination with DVD Region Free (if you want to copy other than region 4 Australian dvds) works much better than ANY DVD as it doesn't take over your drive. DVD Shrink is also free.
Hope that helps.
Regards Merv

AnyDVD does not 'take over' your drive if you do not want it. You can activate or deactivate it for specific drives in the settings.

ANYDVD problem

I have similar problem as s34n, my Pioneer DVR-A03 drive will not read CD's in any shape or form since trying anydvd, I just hear a clunking noise. I uninstalled anydvd, my Pioneer drive and reinstalled the drive as suggested by mervmudge to no avail even after removing the anydvd driver.
Furthermore, media player and Power DVD will no longer play from DVD directly
The only good thing is that I can still read and write DVD's.
This is my only dvd/cd drive and so I cant re-install any software.
In desparation I backed up my data and tried to re-install XP, but my drive wouldn't read the XP installation disc even at boot-up.

Help

G'Day,

I am successfully using AnyDVD and CloneDVD in Win2000. I have not seen any of the problems listed in this thread. I HAVE seen problems like this in the DOS world when the wrong CD Driver was used for the cd drive.

I checked the drivers for my 3 CD Drives in my system, and all drivers are the original MS drivers. I am going to take a guess that AnyDVD perhaps replaced the MS cdrom.sys driver with one in AnyDVD. Can someone please look at their device list, check the CD Drives, and post which drivers XP is using for your CD Drives? They should all be drivers from MS.

Thanks, and if you like, you can email me directly at billy_news1@yahoo.com.au

Cheers,

Billy
