Clone Dvd - playing problems I initially posted this in the CloneCd forum by mistake... OK, still new at this... Downloaded trial versions of AnyDvd (5.8.4.1) and CloneDvd (2.8.5.1) today. Backup worked flawlessly, however I cannot play them (Wedding Crashers uncorked, Garden State) on my HT Panasonic Dvd player but can play them fine on my PC. I had previously had the same problem when I first got my NEC 3550A, until I upgraded my firmware using this sites suggested updates. Frimware is set to booktype DVD+R. After that, using Nero burning Rom 6 and 1ClickDvdCopyPro (trial version), I had no problems. Made about 6 backups with no issues. Media was, and still is, Sony DVD+R SL 4.7 8x. Is there a CloneDvd setting that I may be missing? To allow my backups to be played on a home DVD player? I was however able to use the unplayable (on my HT) backups and copy it using Nero, and it played fine. Using CloneDvd, I tried only main title, main with menus, max speed, 16x, 8x...making about a half dozen coasters. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Re: Clone Dvd - playing problems what kind of standalone do you have? does it play +R? +R is probably the least compatible booktype option. go back into where you set booktype and set it to DVD-ROM for your next backup and see if this works.

Re: Clone Dvd - playing problems I have made about 6 backups successfully using AnyDvd and 1ClickDvdCopy Pro without any problems since upgrading my firmware to booktype +R. They all played fine. Now, using CloneDvd, the backups only work on my PC. So, I know the +R works in my Panisonic player. I used Liggy's firmware update. I will set it to DVD-ROM next time to see it that helps. Thanks. Simple enough, I hope that works.

Re: Clone Dvd - playing problems Using CloneDvd, I tried max, 16x and 8x, none worked. Media is only rated at 8x, so I suppose I shouldn't go higher than 8x? I changed my booktype to DVD-ROM using Liggy and Herries Binflash Gui utility. Do I need to reflash my NEC burner again or is the change instant? Thanks.

Re: Clone Dvd - playing problems i have no idea. when i change booktype on my burner i use a software utility that came from teh manufacturer (ben Q) it doens't involve changing firmware at all. i would certainly not burn at max. 8x or even try an experimental disc at 4x to see how that works. usually format incompatibility (whether it be PAL vs NTSC or +R not being supported by the player), poor media, and burning too fast are the problems that affect palyback in a standalone. having booktype always set to DVD-ROM though ensures the highest compatibility in the largest number of players. This is the format that pressed DVDs are read as.

Re: Clone Dvd - playing problems Changing my booktype to DVD-ROM seems to have done the trick. For some reason I figured the booktype should match my media, which was DVD+R. The other programs I had been using must have overidden the booktype to DVD-ROM. I appreciate the help. Thanks!

Re: Clone Dvd - playing problems no problem. glad the problem was sorted out. even if your standalone is supposed to play DVD+R it's always good to set the booktype to DVD-ROM (if the burner allows it) because it will be more widely compatible. as of now this has to be done through a third party software or a firmware setting, but hopefully we'll see bitsetting (booktyping) as a feature of clonedvd itself ![]()

mostly up for debate. i prefer +R media booktyped to dvd-rom. not all burners allow for booktyping though. for those who can't set booktype, DVD-R is probably the best bet. many people will argue for both sides. the above is just my opinion. many dvd players still are limited to just -R as far as playing back recordable media, but they are becoming fewr and fewer and new players are manufactured. in my opinion there are still enough of those suckers around (my own standalone included) to warrant booktyping to DVD-ROM. | |
