Burning problem with Clone DVD

60% of the time when I start to burn in "Clone DVD" mode at maximum speed using my Sony DRU-510A, the lights on the drive and the HD both stop flashing and writing does not continue. I have to restart my system to even get the coaster out of the drive.
Some of the time, the writing completes flawlessly.
I have loaded the most recent ASPI drivers, and am stumped.

Any help would be appreciated

The Sony 5xx drives have known issues with various media. I had to upgrade the FW of my 500s at work to feed it some TDKs (even then, I changed to Verbatim). Try something else for the moment and let us know.

Thanks for the reply.
I was burning fine out of the box with firmware 1.0c.
Then, at the same time, I updated my BIOS, and upgraded to firmware 1.0d.
Then I started having trouble. I then went back to 1.0c, loaded the ASPI drivers, and thought it was fixed. Just today did the drive start acting up.
I am using Maxell 4x DVD-Rs.
I'm going to update my 4 in 1 drivers, then try again.

Only DiscDump and old Steinberg apps need Adaptec's ASPI. This file layer is only really needed for Adaptec and Roxio products.

The shell for CloneDVD is ElbyCDIO.dll. XP has its own file layer - SPTI or SCSI Passthrough Interface, VOB used ASAPI, Padus uses pfc.sys and so on...

Anyway, as you say, check the chipset drivers and see if you can uninstall ASPI

I did try burning in CloneDVD using 4x, but the burning ended up taking much longer than 4x. It took nearly 1/2 hour.
What I've been doing is using CloneDVD to make the DVD files, then burning them in nero.
This has worked quite well, but still is not perfect.
I have updated m firmware to 1.0f, which seemed to help the problem for the meantime.

It turned out to be that DMA was not enabled on my sony drive.

I do have DMA enabled. However, after updating the firmware on my DRU-510A, I burned a disc. When you update the firmware on my drive, you are instructed to disable DMA on the drive while you do the update.
I did the update, but didn't enable DMA.
I tried burning a disc, and the results were quite interesting.
The whole process progressed very slowly. Also, the buffer on the drive would totally fill up, then totally deplete, then fill up, and so on.
So I re-enabled DMA.
Just thought I would share that.

I had this problem, and it's down to a bad batch of blank DVDs (I am going to buy my DVDs elsewhere in future!). I am getting 2 coasters to 1 good disk at the moment but it started with my latest batch of DVD blanks and I have replacement disks (chosen after solid research on the way).

Cheers,
Fairy

PS- I get the same problem with Nero as well so I know it's the DVDs to blame

Firmware

I have a dru500a, so i'm not sure if it is the same, but i have updated my firmware to 2.0g at the sony page.
Now i can burn a lot more DVD-/+ R.

It works also with the very cheap Imation Disc's.
