a06 reading and writing speeds

yeaterday back-up my first dvd with a06 thru anydvd and clonedvd.the movie was "pirates of the caribbean" and lasted 2h.23m.even after i removed french and spanish languages, directors comments and some other items reading lasted 55 m. and writing to 4x media took 17m.i'm not complaining about writing speed, but does reading takes so long?the back-up came out perfect though.thanks.also which sound streams are better to keep for 5.1 surround sound system-DTS or ACS-3 and what does these letters mean?thanks again

the transcoding time seems to be a bit on the high side for u. maybe it's cuz the dvd drive u're ripping from is limited in speed when ripping CSS-encrypted dvds. try ripping the dvd files to ur hard drive first with dvd decrypter, then aim clonedvd at those files, and see if it still takes the same amount of time.

as far as what DTS and AC3 (not ACS-3) are, u can find their definitions in this glossary. DTS provides higher quality sound, but takes up much more space, and u need a dvd player and stereo receiver capable of decoding DTS.

Pirates took me 1h20min from start to finsh to transcode and burn at 1x...your times are extremely high but can be due to several factors...processor speed(faster is better)memory(more is better)dvd rom speed(16x rips a dvd in 10 mins or less)..dont use your burner to rip into the harddrive...use a dedicated rom for that its too much unnecessary stress to the burner..

your nec is fine from what i read ..it has a 12x read speed..so for a dual layer it probably reads at 6x..still fast enought to rip a dvd in about 20mins...transcoding is a different matter...speed is the name of the game there..sometimes it takes me 4mins to transcode and sometime it takes me 15mins...depends on the movie i guess..ask around..im betting you will find out that if you upgrade your cpu and memory better times will definetly happen..good luck

thanks for your help.i just installed a nec dvd-rom-so now i have a dvd-rom and my a06 to do my reading and writing.tried it-it took just as long to read with nec.i know now that it's not the burner's fault.my puter is old:cpu is pentium 3-800mhz (bare minimum acc.to the specs, memory is 384 mb of sdram133.i can't afford to get another system now.my burns are fine-just slow.anydvd i'm using is an old version-1411.it doesn't show devices like 3211 does.maybe 1411 sets slow speeds for devices listed.thanks.i'll try new anydvd and see the diff.thanks again.
