Re: DVD block size (in bytes)

Hello!

There are 16 sectors in one DVD data Block.
one sector is construted by 2048 bytes(only data).
So one DVD data block size is 2048*16 bytes(=32768 bytes)

Re: DVD block size (in bytes)

hello blueoled

so 2295104 blocks should be 2295104 * 16 * 2048 = 75205967872 bytes
what should be 75205967872/1024/1024/1024 = 70GB and it's not right!!!

I calculate every block as 2048 bytes so I gets that that DVD capacity (in bytes) is 4.377GB what closer to the right capacity (4.7GB) but it's not correctly yet. I'm still looking for the right size

Re: DVD block size (in bytes)

Dear yoss05:

I told you the definition of data block is from DVD-Rom specifications.
So the block you got is the sector of DVD-ROM.
I think the block size is 2048 Byte.

You got the freeblock is 2295104
so 2295104 blocks should be 2295104 * 2048 = 4700372992 bytes
The capacity of DVD is about 4.7 Gbytes (1Gbytes=1000000000 bytes for decimal)

The other result is 4.377 Gbytes (1Gbytes=1073741824 bytes for computer)
4700372992/1073741824=4.377 G
4700372992/1048576=4482.6 M (you can see this result from Nero Disc info)

For computer
K=1024
M=1024*1024=1048576
G=1024*1024*1024=1073741824

Re: DVD block size (in bytes)

Hi Blueoled,

Thanks for clearing that up - your initial description was different:

"one DVD data block size is 2048*16 bytes(=32768 bytes)"

Thanks

Mike
