I use this function and occassionally get a return value of NDE_GENERIC_ERROR. All of the other return values make sense. I can prompt a user that the drive is open or not ready, but what causes a generic error? It is not an obvious error to me, but ejecting the disc and reinserting remove this error. Just wondering how others are handling this value?

NDE_GENERIC_ERROR should be handled as if the drive is not ready. It is just that the drive does not return "not ready" but some other return code.
