| Re: is there an easy way to convert pal to ntsc? dvdSanta will do it without and problem in a few clicks, just add the files and it will work ok. I dont think it will keep the menus or subtitles though. And you are probably best to re-author with just one audio and video channel with dvdShrink, so one long title that is just the main movie before you run it through dvdSanta. Ben ![]()

| Re: is there an easy way to convert pal to ntsc? well bud that is task unto itself. There are a few methods that people use online. 1.TMPGEnc(works oK but you have to learn it.Most people do Ok with it but to me it has a confusing interface.I don't think it's very user friendly) 2.VirtualDub with AviSynth(good results but you have to learn to add scripts to get the full functionality out of it) 3.Canopus Procoder(the best in my opinion.Easy to use but $$$$$$$) Here is a site with a bunch of guides on how to do it and what tools to use. |

| Re: is there an easy way to convert pal to ntsc? YES! This took me forever to find and took a year of research. I did the long slow TMPenc way and yes the results are great but is it ever a pain plus it takes all afternoon for just one movie. Not really practical. DVD Santa's results are a bit jerky and not very good from what I've seen but yes, it does work. The best one click solution I've found is a program called ConvertXtoDVD from a company called VSO. It converts the movie just fine but you won't get the menu's. Oh well. You don't get them with TMPEnc either and this way is MUCH easier. Here's how to do the conversion: When you install ConvertXtoDVD make sure to select NTSC and leave all the other options alone. 1) Rip the main movie to a folder using DVD Decrypter or FAB DVD Decrypter or something like that. If your movie is in IMG or ISO format you can mount it with DAEMON tools. Either way you should end up with 4 or 5 VOB files inside a folder representing the main movie. Each VOB except for the last one in the set is about a GB in size so you can tell which is the main movie. 2) Start up ConvertXtoDVD and put in a blank DVD 5. 3) Click File then Add Video File 4) Select the first VOB in your set of 4 or 5 that represents the main movie - ConvertX will see the entire set as part of one movie so no need to select the rest of the VOB's. 5) Click Convert That's about it. In an hour or so you should have your brand new NTSC DVD. If you really want to be sure it's doing something you can pause the movie under Action and then in Window you can click Video Preview. --DB |

| Re: is there an easy way to convert pal to ntsc? Hi eveyone! I've been trying everything found in every forum on earth for the answer to this issue. I found this idea, tried it and can verify it works perfectly! Plus, it's pretty easy to do (or I couldn't have accomplished it). Here's what I did: Ripped the PAL dvd to my hard drive (any ripping software is OK). I then used a program called AVS Video Converter to convert it. This program also allows you to convert any format video file (even youtube .FLV files) to any format (including IPOD video). Because the DVD contained 3 episodes, I wanted to make one file and manually separate them. Therefore, I had the program convert the DVD to an Mpeg-2 file, which is NTSC compatible. After the conversion was complete (it did take a few hours), I had one long Mpeg-2 file that contained 3 episodes. It was time to separate them. I used TMPGEnc. It is the old version 1.6, but still worked great. You load the dvd file by clicking the Add File button. After it loads, click the Chapter Cut Edit button to view the file frame-by-frame. I scrolled the frames and decided where I wanted the first episode to begin, then clicked the set as start frame button. You can play, fast forward or even jump ahead by moving the arrow on the slider or clciking on the slider. I then located the end of the first episode and clicked the set as end frame button (it's a good idea to note and wriote down the time stamp on the last frame for reference when going back to the file later). Since episode one was done I clicked the OK button at the bottom of the window. It added epsode one to the output. To add the next episode you have to close the edit window and start over by adding the same file again. This time, click the slider and go to the time stamp of the end of where you ended last. When found you click the set as start frame again, then find the end of the second episode and click the set as end frame again, then click the OK button at the bottom to save that episode to your new DVD file. I then repeated this again for the third episode and clicked OK. I now had three separate episodes ready to burn to NTSC format. From the top of the menu click the create menu button. Here you can rename the files, choose background colors, font colors, etc. When your menu is complete click the output button and let it do it's thing! You will probably get a warning that your total output is larger than can be burned to a standard DVD. This is because the PAL format is more compressed. Don't worry about the warning, just continue. The finished file should be saved in TMPGEnc/volume 1 folder, but note where it is being saved. After the DVD files have been created close out the program (without burning the files to disc, because they are too large). The last step is open the finished folder with DVDShrink and let DVDShrink downsize them and burn them to disk for the finished product. The great thing about this newly created disc is that it won't jump or skip when played, you'll have the working menus you created in TMPGEnc, and a great DVD to watch and enjoy. IT is also a good idea to make a backup copy in case something happens to your originals. Although you can always go back and make it over again, you can save the hassel by having a back up ready. If anyone has any question, just ask, I'll be happy to help! ![]() Rob |
