Help with region protected DVD

OK I'm having a stressful problem here.
I have reflashed my DVD firmware to make it region-free (double checked it with Drive Region Info)

However, when I try to play any region protected DVD, my Media Player Classic reports that I have an invalid region, so I used DVD Region killer, and it just makes my player crashes and sometimes locks up my laptop.

Then I use a PowerDVD v5 with DVD Region-Free v3.20 combo, and I still get the same crashes.

What did I do wrong here? What exactly do I have to do to make me be able to play any DVD from any region? Is this even related to region protection at all?

I found out what the problem is.
Apparently the culprit is actually the region-free firmware.
Back then when I first have the DVD ROM there isn't a software DVD region disabler so I had to reflash it. It worked fine back then (I played some region protected DVDs fine).
Now somehow the fact that the DVD ROM drive has no region selection confuses my media players (and the region disablers as well). Now I don't know why this happens, but it just does.

All I did was reflash the firmware to the original (with the region protection on), then AnyDVD would work fine and I can play it normally with MPC.

Weird problem, but at least it works now.
