| What is Special About iRiver AC to DC Adapter I own a iRiver ChromeX IMP-150 portable CD Player. In my car, I use a Philips PH62051 adapter kit which includes a CD to cassette adapter and a 12V DC to player power adapter (and both work fine). At home however, every brand of 120V AC to player power adapter I have tried (including Philips) has not worked (the iRiver logo comes on briefly in the little window and then the player shuts off). I have read somewhere that only the iRiver AC power adapter will work with my player. But I would sure like to know why generic AC adapters, supplying the player's required 4.5V DC and "positive" tip polarity, will not work. I am stumped ! |

| where did you get the player from? maybe i guess it only works with dc adapter as you confirmed it worked with car input 12V / DC .

| Where did I get Player? --- what is the relevance? I know of no local dealers of iRiver products. The plug on the Philips power adapter (12V DC to 4.5V DC) and the plug on the generic adapter (120V AC to 4.5V DC) appear the same by micrometer measurement. I returned the Philips AC adapter before I thought to measure its plug. Puzzle, eh? I also think it's weird that the player runs on two 1.5V (3V total) batteries, but via adapters the player requires 4.5V DC. |

| You also need to check the current/amperage of the adapter too. The other thing is when using a DC-DC adapater (cigar lighter), good ones will also filter out EMI/RFI coming from the alternator. If this player is portable, does it have a battery charging circuit? Many devices when they see a higher voltage (4.5vdc -vs- 3vdc) lets them know they are on an external power source, giving them the ability to enable any battery charging circuit. |
