I don't use Drive Speed cause I think 3rd party softwares can cause problems. My advice is to undo the change or get it back to default.

Also, even if its rated at 48x, it may not actually reach 48x on max read speed on CD Speed.

Hope this helps,

Your drive is not fully compatible with all versions of cdspeed and nero drive speed. Download the latest. See if it helps.

Well the problem is not hardware, so that's good. Its some settings in the registry, probably. Does it go to 40x on all benchmarking programs? Like with SANDRA n etc?

Definitely the registry then, I don't know the exact thing but look into this sticky thread by FutureProof, it may have what your looking for.

Dont know if it's the same case but i used to have such problems with nero (not cdspeed) not being able to read the "true" reading speed of my drive (a ricoh 12x cdr).

What i used to do (it was a couple of years ago so i don't remember exactly) is open the file in the registry where nero kept info about the supported drives and change some parameters there in order to "show" nero the drive's reading speed. It's kind of late though now, haven't got any sleep for ages and am too sleepy to search the specific file you should modify. Will do that first thing when i wake up. In the mean time maybe someone else might show you the way

Well its only really 8x less. At max, u can read a 80min CD at 2 mins, with 48x it would be 1:40 mins. So the most performance lost u got is 20 secs, not really a big deal, rite?

Just trying to look at the big picture ,

but the low performance is with reading DVD movies for example too..i think its not only the 40x lock with cdr read speeds

I've had serious troubles in the past with Toshiba players concerning the Aspi drivers. Tough nero shouldn't be fooled by 3rd party aspi drivers ( it has its own) , it could perform a compatibility problem.

In my case , the use of ForceAspi solved it.

Here's the direct download link to ForceASPI 1.7 (ASPI Layer v4.60):

Download it here | Find mirrors here | Get more info here

Also use Nero Info Tool, it may tell you whether you have any 3rd Party programs/drivers.

Here's what iMAGiNE said on the thread I gave you earlier,

Quote:
Toshiba has lowered the read speed to 40x with the new FW 1806. Intentionally.
That actually isn't much of a surprise. Plextor writers capable of reading 48x are limited to 40x, according to an article by Gamefreak, in order to save life for the motor and to prevent bad CDs (unbalanced, scratched, old, etc) from exploding. Plextor's Plex Tools allow you to disable the limit, though it advises against it, and I agree, I'd rather have my drive last longer than shave a few seconds off read time and risk a shattered CD.

This test was done with a toshiba SD-M1612 reading Dues Ex which is on a CD about 700MB.

Did same test with LTR48125W and the speed got upto 51x but never the less, my problem is sorted

WOHOO!!

I didn't want to waste the forum owners space by puttin screenys of nero drive speed, bit if u wanna see em just let me know. Nero drive speed doesn't even show a 40x read speed anymore, it leaps from 32x to 48x!

Seems the problem was definetly FIRMWARE !!!
