| need help - Windows Automatic Updates always cause my burner to stop working Every time my Windows Automatic Updates kick in, my burner stops working. I'm not sure why, but if I uninstall/re-install my burning & related programs, everything starts working again. When problems occur, any attempt to write produces a 'clicking sound' on the writer and then a failure saying "bad media". (sorry for the newbie-esque descriptions there). I have burned > 100 CDs & DVDs with this media, but it still complains - after the Windows updates. Now of course you'll say: "Don't run Windows Update", but I like to stay current with patches, etc. I have a Dell Optiplex GX520 with a Philips DVD8701 DVD-+RW and use have these installed: - Roxio Media Creator 8 - CopyToDVD (latest) - 1Click DVD Copy 4.2 - DVD43 I just recently installed the Roxio, and it was working too. Even before Roxio, every time a Windows update occurs, I have problems. Any ideas on how I can prevent this, or is there anyone here that i can at least commiserate with? Thanks in advance... |
