| My CD's wont work I use Verbatim rewritable CD's, i thought they were better than some other CD's but i keep getting problems. A whole archive got wasted and the cd had to be thrown away the other day because a few weeks after buring everything on cd, it wont read data from most areas of the CD. Now i gotta cd with mpeg movies on. The cd plays movies directly from the CD - no problems. When i try to copy the movie to hard disk it fails 3 minutes before it completes with the error message: 'Cannot copy [filename.ext] Data error (cyclic redundancy check)" I tried them in different drives and on different computers, I use Nero 6 and had no problems buring the CD's. help!

| Re: My CD's wont work Just a question - why are you using RW CD's? I have had nothing but bad experiences with them. With decent CD-R media being so cheap that is what I always use. You could try something like IsoBuster or even using CloneCD to see if they can manage to recover the files. (CloneCD with ignore errors and see if it will play) |

The other reason why i use rewritable because when i dont need them anymore i can over write them because i dont like the idea of having stacks of CD's all around me sitting around idle. Anyway, thanx, i'll try isobuster and clone cd, are they freeware or payware?

| Re: My CD's wont work I'm afraid you have to pay for them - but google for CD data recovery freeware - I am sure there are some out there, but I have never used them. Should note though, that if the data is that corupt - nothing will recover it!! |

| Re: My CD's wont work The problem isnt just the actual CDRW disks its the fact that ALL CDRW ( packet writing) software is UNRELIABLE. I gave up on packet writing and CDRW years ago after loosing data just as you are describing. your best bet for data back up that is easy and reliable is to use a USB 2.0 external hard drive combined with periodic ( monthly) back ups to CDR's or DVDR disks.

| Re: My CD's wont work I know you say you use CDRW to save money man, but like these guys said, they're kinda crap no matter what kind you buy, or what burner you burn them with. Sure some people use them with no probems, but I've seen so many people have problems with them that I avoid them like the plague. It will never happen, but it would be nice if they just stopped selling them lol cause they suck IMO. CDR's are so damn cheap though, you're talking about very little money unless your constantly burning your backups or something. But to trust CDRW for your backups, most people will tell you it's not a good idea. I think they're just to screw around on if anything. I have a few CDRW discs that came with burners I've bought, don't know why I haven't just thrown them away. Actually I should go do that right now, I'll never use them. ![]() |

| Re: My CD's wont work I've got some Verbatim 8-12x CD-RW & these appear to be very good quality. I use them for TV shows that I just watch once & overwrite. No problems at all. But I now don't use this type of media for backups at all. Regarding packet writing software, over the years I've use Roxio Direct CD/Drag to Disk & found it quite reliable unlike Nero's INCD which gave me nothing but problems. |
