Firstly let me describe my rig to u

p4 2.8 ghz (w/o HT)
256 ddr ram
80 gb hdd
dvd
cd writer
geforce 4 mx
sis chipset mb

ok i have a few issues i am puzzled with of which i need help

1. Do i have to have HT for me to have blistering performance isnt the p4 factor enuff for that

2. how can i check the speed of my ram without having to remove it? for an example 256 of wht the 366-400? and wht is this 2200-2300 thingie? could my ram be slowing it down

3. does hdd transfer speed affect sys performance

just in short wht i mean is could my xp version affect performance speed?

wht i notice is when u run start or windows break or sumten like that it doesnt come at once u know like in a flash like msoffice proggies and stuff, and my pals lappie is flying when he just clicks on start i have tweaked everything software wise to think that with a 2.8 i wont have to do no tweaking, pls anyone help me on the areas i need to develop on my hardware i know< the vga is long overdue and i am abt to replace it with perhaps the latest from nvidia or radeon,

also does nvidia make their own cards or is nv and radeon both now only chip manufacturers?

I am not usre of the overall question. I guess that you think your computer isn't as fast as it should be. Is this right?



HT will be faster but your 2.8Ghz processor is near the top of the tree. It will be faster enough for quite some time yet.



I am sure there is a RAM checker on the internet somewhere. When you start up the computer on the black screen with the writting it may come up with your amount of Ram and speed. If not then try in the BIOS. Some will list amounts and speeds. The 366-400 and 2200-2300 are the same things. They are both a measure of the Ram speed. Normally it is written 366Mhz/ PC2200.

Do you have lots of progs installed. More Ram might help as you have only got 256 installed. When my systems starts slowing down I whip out the O/S disks and reinstall. Cleans all of the rubbish off that is on there.



The put down the specifications on how the board should be made. I beileve the other companies than take them and put the boards together. Not 100% sure on that though.
