Mega Hardware/Software Problem With Playing Games! I have recently been playing these games... Counter-Strike 1.6 (on steam) HL Mod Natural Selection (on steam) Star Wars Jedi Knight Jedi Academy Star Wars Jedi Knight II Jedi Outcast Star Wars Empire at War Carmageddon 3 TDR 2000 and every time I play one of these it will either freeze while sound is looping and/or it will freeze with sound loop for 10-20 seconds and go again then freeze again and it might just go back into windows closing the game app or my monitor will go black like it turns off (green light turns yellow) and just this morning it would freeze with a sound loop and then show me some blue screen I have never seen before (not the memory dump one) but it goes away and my PC restarts before I can read anything. If any of this is sounding familiar to anyone or they have delt with this before and figured out the problem please share with me I will be 120% greatful thanks in advance.

Re: Mega Hardware/Software Problem With Playing Games! Sounds like something is overheating... CPU or video card maybe? The downside of the powersaving magic in modern videocards is that they 'underclock/volt' themselves when there isn't much load on them and will run stabley. As soon as you load them up (i.e. games), they draw max power and run at max clockspeed, and its only then that a problem with airflow or heatsink will manifest itself, usually in the form of such a random crash ![]() Do you notice increasing rendering artifacts in the games just before it crashes? It's usually a goodsign the videocard is overheating (Used to get that a lot in my old case with my passively-cooled 6600GT...)

Re: Mega Hardware/Software Problem With Playing Games! Well after posting this morning I went to work came home and it was still going on but I was able to play for alittle while longer maybe 20-30 minutes before it crashed. it usally happend instantly or within 20-30 seconds. I did more research and other sites did say that its "usually" a heating problem with the CPU or GPU and it was kinda both. I bought really good fan awhile back (makes lots of noise but I dont mind) I recently put it on the low speed becuase I set my CPU back to factory speed but today I pulled out my 9800 Pro touched the heatsink/fan and it was super hot so I put next to the AC for a minute then put it back in and turned my CPU fan on Highest and have been playing Star Wars for a few hours now. Thanks for the reply Cyker it was still a help ![]() BTW, I didnt notice any increasing rendering artifacts. Also, If I cant view my vid cards temp. from within PC Wizard 2006 does that mean it dosnt have a mini thermostat or somthin lol?

Re: Mega Hardware/Software Problem With Playing Games! Dunno; Not familiar with PC Wizard. I know MBM can't read my 6600GT's temp. sensor, but that's because I don't have the module for it. I usually just check it via the nVidia control panel 'tho ![]()
