Time to get a Netgear?

But seriously, the Linksys routers are known for bugs, this sounds like it's resetting for some reason. If a cold boot doesn't help, replace it. Here's my experience with routers: Linksys lasted about a year with occasional problems dropping WAN connections. DLink lasted about 2 days with frequent dropped WAN connections. Netgear has been running 24/7 for maybe 3 years with never a single dropped connection.

I have the same problem with Linksys BEFW11S4. A friend also had the same problem. We replaced them with the G version (WRT54GS and WRT54G) and running 24/7 for over a year now.

The WRT54GS use modified firmware: DD-WRT #22 (talismen). Friends uses official firmware.

Linksys support is usually very good, you proably have to reset the router and upgrade the firmware. Look here

Re: Linksys Router

I have a Linksys WRTG54G and I have my playstation 3 "hardwired" through my router. I have endless problems with the connection on the PS3 but no issues at all on my laptop (except for windows issues....time to go Linux!) I contacted linksys and opened the ports to the specs they gave me but I'm still having problems. What can I do?

Side question: What is the DD-WRT #22 firmware? Is it a modded firmware that we can't get through Lnksys?

My PS3 is also wired to the router and I set up the Internet Connection Settings "manually". You might want to try that and see if it works better. If you need help with the manual setting, let us know.

Yes DD_WRT is a modded firmware with a lot better features and options. #22 has been replaced with new updates, and our member Dizzy might be able to give you alternative options since I'm not using the Linksys anymore after moving and got a new router from Verizon FIOS.

I have it set up manually. I used all the specs Linksys gave me. They had me enter all the info manually. Not working so well. I thought it may have been Comcast my interent provider but I spoke to them and they say it's not them because I'd be having trouble with my laptop as well if it were them. Sounds reasonable I guess.

I googled the DD_WRT and I am interested in it. I'll have to look Dizzy up and see what info he's got about it.

Re: Linksys Router

What I meant was setting up the PS3 internet manually, not DHCP.

Does your laptop's network settings DHCP or manual?

Edit: Just in case, here's how to setup your PS3 internet manually.

First you need to find out your internet's Primary DNS and Secondary DNS. You can get it by calling Comcast support or get it from your router's setup. Write them on a piece of paper.

Then go to PS3 Settings and go through these menus: Internet Connection Settings > Custom > Wired Connection > Manual Settings > Speed and Duplex: Auto Detect > IP Address Settings: Manual.

IP Address: 192.168.1.XXX (replace XXX with any number between 2 and 100, ie 9)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Router: 192.168.1.1
Primary DNS: from comcast
Secondary DNS: from comcast

Finish the other settings and let us know.

Lol, this is what I meant by manual. This is what I was told to do by Linksys. I'm still having troubles after doing it though. I think I'll try to re-do it when I get home today. After I do that I'll post an update.

Re: Linksys Router

If you're going to flash your router with a 3rd party firmware beware that it'll void your warranty. First you need to figurate out which hw version you have of it. http://wiki.openwrt.org/OpenWrtDocs/...t=%28wrt54g%29
You should not disable DHCP ("Dynamic IP") on the PS3, it'll cause you more trouble in the long run...

I've had the router since November of 06 so I think the warranty is up anyway. I believe it's version 6 but won't know for sure until I get home to look at it. Linksys told told me to disable the DHCP, so I could manually enter all the info for the ports, IP,etc. Any ideas or info you may have concerning the router and the connection issue on the PS3 please inform me. I can't stand getting kicked off my Playstation network every two minutes.

What kind of problem, Danne?

All my wired desktops, LAN printer and PS3 at home are connected with manual IP (range between 192.168.1.2 to 30). Only laptops and PDAs are dynamic IP and I only encountered problem once, fixed now. The problem was, the PCs were all turned off at night, then wife turn on her laptop in the morning. The router assigned the first available dynamic IP of 192.168.1.4 which is supposed to be for one of my kids PC. When he turn the PC on, there goes IP conflict. Since then I set my router to give dynamic IP 192.168.1.100 and above. So my cable box, laptops, PDA and visiting friends' laptops will not conflict with my static LAN IP. Never get any problem since.

Re: Linksys Router

Unless you configure address range for the builtin DHCP server you will run into IP address conflicts just as you've encountered above. Use static entries (lock IP address using MAC addresses) instead and you'll have same functionality. Keep also in mind that if you ISP changes DNS server for instance it'll be updated automatically (you'll also get this by pointing clients to your gateway address). All in all, it's all simplier to maintain and to force changes to clients even if you usually dont make much changes to a home network. DHCP also ensures you to have a "plug 'n play" network :-)
