ie locking up when scrolling.

recently I have noticed my internet explorer locking up when scrolling with the wheel mouse. It then will refresh the screen about a minute later and be ok. Every once and a while it locks up completly and the screen garbles (hard reboot time).

I have a evga 6800 ultra with a nvidia 3 ultra 250 mb fx53 chip, corsair twinx ram low latency. I am thinking its the video card and maybe a power issue since it need freakin 2 power cables..but not sure because it does not lock up in anything else. It is not nvidia motherboard drivers as I uninstalled them same issues.

Re: ie locking up when scrolling.

Does the video card share an interrupt (IRQ)? Is fastwrites enabled? If so try to disable it, also lower AGP speed to 4X. Do you have the newest drivers for chipset och video?

Re: ie locking up when scrolling.

Is it a USB mouse, if so....

How many USB devices are connected to your mainboard? maybe too much power drainage, or a non-powered USB hub somewhere along the way? Can cause major M/B stress.

Whats your PSU? Whats the Amps on the 3.3v rail?

It has its own IRQ. I have tried both 4x and 8x agp same thing. I am using 61.77 nvidia drivers. Fastwrites isn't selectable in my Gigabyte mb bios. I have never notcied a issue before with my ati 9700 pro.

The only other thing I can think of is it is the picky 6800 ultras needing 100% clean power (I have a 480 watt ps but it came with case so who knows how good it really is).

It is usb logitech mx510 mouse. but I have it and all the rest of my usb 1 devices on a powered hub. only other things I have connected is a firewire dvd writer and a usb2 writer in another slot. Now I do have 5 internal dvd drives and 4 internal harddrives..hehee.

PSU is unknown 480 watt came with case (me thinks it may be the problem).

Re: ie locking up when scrolling.

You should set fastwrites and AGP speed in the drivers since they override bios settings.
Have you tried running memtest or similar for a while (a few hours)?
http://www.memtest.org/
You might want to check the temperature on your video card too.

Re: ie locking up when scrolling.

Windows 98 used to have a bug like this with certain ATI cards it had to do with how IE displays pages causing a conflict with the ATI Drivers. sounds like you got an updated version of the bug this time with new Nvidia drivers.

prolly..thats why i am using netscape now. though nvidias suggestion of removing smooth scrolling seem to fix it. Me thinks its the way they implement the graphics on smooth scrolling that is causing issues. I have noticed Netscape has smooth scrolling off by default.

they are enabled/set in the driver. Temp is fine on videocard low green. i am pretty sure this is a ie bug as nothing else (burning, ripping, playing games, leaving 3dmark in a loop for 12 hours) cause lockups.

but i still want a better PSU.

Re: ie locking up when scrolling.

I just bought a PNY 6800 Ultra 256 AGP and I'm having the same problem! Everything runs great except when scrolling in IE I get lockups, bluescreens and a reboot.

I don't think its a power issue because I just bought and installed a new 500w power supply, the one with modular power connections.

Let me know if anyone finds a fix for this...
