| I need help/ideas on how to lock files on a USB drive from being seen/accessed... Hi... A couple weeks ago I bought an external Seagate drive, got a heck of a deal on it - 300 GB USB/Firewire for $144.95 with a couple of rebates at Buy.com. I was gonna go with a Maxtor OneTouch II because it has DriveLock - a feature that supposedly lets you completely lock the drive from being accessed by intruders (not hackers, but people in your own home/office), but the price made a big difference and I went with the Seagate drive. There is no tool on this drive to let me password lock it! I need to find a way, if possible, to either lock the drive from being accessed from ANY computer or at least find a way to lock and encrypt the files (again, the goal is to prevent people from seeing the contents of the drive, and using it altogether, even if they access it from another PC). I have seen a couple of software apps (like Folder Lock), that promise to do this, but that works only if someone were to use my PC. The drive is the ST3300801CB-RK - this line. Is this possible? And if it's not, what are the alternatives? I'm pretty pissed about this. You would think that this being 2006 and all, these drives would come default with more advanced tools and software. Thanks a lot in advance... |

| Re: I need help/ideas on how to lock files on a USB drive from being seen/accessed... an alternatives is to lock the data on the drive something simple like a password protected zip file or image is a start or you can buy software (there are so many on the web) that can protect various file types
