Help please. Computer Freezes on Dvd burn - Club CDFreaks

Hi all,

first of all heres my comp specs:

P4 3.00ghz
512mb Ram
ATI Sapphire vid card
Lite-On SOHW 1213S DVD+RW
OS : Windows XP

Now the problem:

I found a few people on the internet with a similar problem and since i visit this site quite regularly i decided i'd try here first.

I've recently reformatted my hard drive and re-installed windows XP only to find that everytime I attempt to burn a dvd my computer locks up. I have tried going between Service Pack 1 and 2 to no avail. When I attempt to burn a DVD all encoding goes smoothly of the file when using nero. The point it locks up is when it says Writing to DvD. It almost seems as if there is no communication between the computer and the DVD burner yet i can burn Music CD's and install programs off a CD. I've tried firmware updates/ checking proper connection of the drives ribbon cables and the use of a fair amount of different DVD burning programs all of which encode the files well but cannot burn. I also used a diag. tool to check CPU temp and all seems well! Drivers are working properly apparently. I'm not quite sure as to what the problem may be? any ideas?

Let's check something ...

Go to > Start > My Computer
> Right Click on DVD drive > Properties > Auto-Play tab

What do you have selected for the "Action to Preform" for 'Blank CD" ?
This should be set as "Take no action"

While here in the DVD Drive 'Properties"
Do you have a "DLA" tab ?
= Disable DLA

Do you have a 'Recording' tab ?
= Disable "Desktop CD Recording"

You've said you have Nero .
Do you have the InCD portion installed/Active ?

Have you checked to ensure DMA is enabled? Follow the link in my signature to check and/or enable it.

thanks for the feedback so far guys. So far everything seems to be in check. DMA is enabled and all properties for the drive are right but still no luck. although just wondering whats the " InCD portion" for nero?

oh just made a lil breakthru with the problem.. still not sure what exactly is causing the problem but nero seems to burn in safe mode however it is painfully slow in safe mode. I'm thinkin it might be driver related but no drivers have been changed since b4 the format.maybe a conflicting device.. not sure but i would at least think that device manager would show a conflicting device or it would at least tell me that a device is not working properly? i dont know any other ideas based on this?

InCD can be installed with Nero as a portion of the program
Search = InCD or look in your "Add / Remove Programs" listing

If found , It's probably best to remove InCD ( packet-writing software )
The best way to remove InCD is to either Remove ALL of Nero
> Then Reinstall Nero using the "Custom' installation
You can then elect NOT to install the InCD portion .

OR - You may use the Nero "Clean" Tool
