Help! DVD burner drive changes to CD drive when I try to convert & burn

I bought the ImToo DVD Creator software on 6/23/06. This is the same day that I received my external Sony DVD burner in the mail. I bought the DVD Creator software so that I could convert my downloaded AVI files to DVD. I have been successfully using both the DVD Creator software and the DVD burner for the past week and a half. Yesterday (7/1/06) I could no longer convert and burn using my DVD burner with the DVD Creator software. Before I place a blank DVD+ disc in the DVD-RW drive it states "DVD-RW drive"; however, when I close the drawer with the blank disc the F drive then changes to "CD drive". The DVD Creator software will now not work to convert and burn my AVI files to the DVD+ discs.

Again, like I said before this worked for about a week and a half and just suddenly stopped working. I have rebooted my computer several times. I have unplugged and plugged back in the DVD burner. I have used System Restore. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the ImToo DVD Creator software. None of these have changed the fact that I can no longer convert and burn to DVD.

I can however burn from my D drive (CD-RW) to my E drive (DVD-RW) when I am just burning (and not converting the AVI) using Nero. So I know that it must not be my DVD burner that is messing up.

Re: Help! DVD burner drive changes to CD drive when I try to convert & burn

I found these two solutions on Digit-Life.com forum and they so far are working. I was able to burn a DVD for the first time since last Saturday.

(1) Check whether your IMAPI CD-burn COM service has been disabled or has stopped running. (run msconfig, or look it up via Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services). Mark it as a start-up service, reboot, and start the service manually if it still doesn't run (again by Control Panel/AdTools/Services).

(2) Right-clicked on my DVD/CD-RW drive in Windows Exploder and selected properties, went to the "Recording" tab and the "Enable CD recording on this drive" check box was not checked. Checked it and immediately it recognized blank CD-R disk.

I hope this will help others who are having the same problems.

I'm not sure what exactly what you mean by that...but:

I originally posted under a forum that I found out was probably the wrong forum (I found the site from an internet search and it took me to the forum directly).

I then thought it would be best to post where it might be answered.

Then when I found the answer I wanted others to be able to find it in case they searched the same way I did.

Sorry, I didn't mean to take up space. I am new to this and I see that you are not new. Thanks for making me feel welcome! I thought I was helping others...even though I don't know much. I'm not even sure why it matters!

So I probably will not be back...not a very friendly site!
