General Hardware Forum Discuss, enclosure kit question at International Chat: Hardware related forum; Hi. I have an enclosure kit with a liteon cdrw in it. One of the features of the enclosure kit is a power switch on the back to turn the burner on and off. If a flip that switch over time or rapidly, will my burner get ruined?

I can't think of a reason why you would need to turn it off, except if the system is powered down. Even then it won't hurt to leave it on.

I can't say for sure, but I know that I would not do this while the system is on.

Well I don't see how rapidly switching it off and on could possibly do it any good, so I wouldn't reccomend doing it. If it has an on/off switch though it was meant to be used. As long as you're not writing at the moment, you can switch it off whenever you want both USB and firewire are hot swappable. You'll have to deal with all the found new hardware messages from Windows, but no harm done.
