To convert analog video to digital. What to buy? I´ve been looking Pinnacle products, Creative products and Canopu ADSC - 110. What I need is something external (USB or Fireware, wich is best?) that works with PAL and NTSC. All the products I´ve seen converts also analog audio to digital, thats somethimg I want too. thank you., Rouch.

Re: To convert analog video to digital. What to buy? Suggest you avoid Pinnacle, their software really sucks. Canopus is pretty decent. Firewire is much better than USB for throughput. Remember that in most cases, the actual capture will take place on your PC, the external device just converts to digital video, so your PC will need to be idle while the capture takes place, or you may have problems with dropped frames and such. Also you might consider just getting a set-top DVD recorder. Many are quite good at encoding top-quality video. I use my Panasonic for all these tasks now, burn to DVD-RAM and copy to PC for further editing/authoring. The ES-10 is under $200 and makes great quality video.

Re: To convert analog video to digital. What to buy? I owned a Laptop Toshiba Tecra A4 comes with a Centrino 1,73GHz and the DVD recorder is Matshita Double layer but I don´t remember now the model. The software I´m pretending to use for editing and capture is Vegas Video. The model of canopus that I told you doesn´t come with any software. So the important thing to me is the converter. Do you know another companies apart from the ones I told you that I could check? Thank you for answering.

Re: To convert analog video to digital. What to buy? I would go with the Canopus. For capture I have used Scenalyzer but I think they may be out of business. I liked Scenalyzer because it could pause the capture. Anyway their website is down. But like I said, I would buy the DVD recorder instead, much simpler.

| Re: To convert analog video to digital. What to buy? The Canopus is overpriced. Take a look at the Plextor unit, and the ADS Pyro AV/LINK. They do the same thing for quite a bit less. The ADS unit is recommended by www.videoguys.com. For around $150.00 you get the unit, and Adobe Premiere Elements software (a good video editing solution). The ATI AIW solutions do a pretty good job as well. Do some searching at www.videohelp.com and you can find information about all of the various solutions...
