If there's no audio from a file, it's certainly not related to the CD-ROM or it's audio cable.

Have you checked in control panel , sounds and audio, and made sure the correct sound card or device is enabled?

I have fixed my problem but am unsure why it is fixed! I went into Device Manager and unchecked DMA in the settings for the Mitsumi cd/rom and now I have sound from the computer again. I have no idea why?
