Any TIPS for building new system?

Hi as topic i'm gonna built a new PC,i have arround 1200 euro's to spend,enough i hope

anyways the system will be used for authoring dvd's etc,not much gaming but this should be no problem if i want to play game

i searched couple sites like www.pcplace.nl www.funprice.nl but still i cant decide what to choose

my choise on Processor would be the :
Intel Pentium 4 3066 Mhz
512 kb Cache S-478
533 Mhz FSB

460 euros? any place sells cheaper ones?

and the Motherboard:
ASUS P4 S478 P4PE/LAN/1394/SATAGD
Chipset Intel 845 PE
FSB: 400/533 Mhz
3xDDR/333/266/200 ??

and ofcource a Pioneer 106 burner

anyways any TIP would be verry appreciated as im a newbie on this matter but i desperate need new system

so if any one could give me a hand and create a solid system for ab 1200 euros i can make up my mind

Thxs!

let's talk a bit about this, please: i have the same processor (amd 2800+ barton, currently running at 2080 mhz - 12.5*166 i guess...), and i'm pretty interested in a "free upgrade"
how does the thing work? can you easily see the benefits?
thanx

My clock multiplier is set at 13 (12.5 is the standard setting)
All other settings untouched, ie 166MHz frontside bus.

Windows XP and AMD CPU info utility now report my chip as a XP300+.

everything runs that bit faster now.

Only 1 Degree (Centigrade) rise in CPU temperature.

My CPU temp on idle (windows running only)

55 Degrees (54 Degrees when XP2800+)

My CPU temp when recoding/encoding DVD or SVCD is 61 Degrees

Note that I have a Variable output CPU fan (Coolermaster Aero 7+)

These temperatures were recorded with the fan running at 2500rpm (Max is 3500rpm)

Ah!

Maybe you can up the frontside bus speed to increase performance?

My Bios will take me to x20 multiplier (Thank you Gigabyte)

I would go for a Pentium 4 x.xC Ghz with a 800Mhz FSB.

The 2.4 Ghz is cheap and quit good to overclock to 3.0Ghz (with aircooling).

I think 50 something degrees when idle is quite high... might wanna get better cooling before you try to overclock?
Just keep pushing up your fsb until it becomes unstable, then drop it by 1-2 mhz. You can push up the core voltage too, but this will increase heat generation for sure, so... try to stick with the default, and see what you can do with that..
