Its time to install my 3 optical drives and the 3 extra hard drives into my system. Any help or advice on how to split the drives, master settings or Slave for each drive. Also any thoughts on optical to Motherboard and hard drives to additional card, or mix them up etc, and best card to use. From experiance i wont be using the promise 133, could never get one to run on my older Asus board. System Specs as my signature. My thanks in advance.

Hi
For CD/DVD etc this card .
At that site any of the other cards giving raid options for hd's.
If you get the CD/DVD card. Install card after getting drivers from here In the handbook it tells you that Windows XP will have drivers, it doesn't. The CD included implies that it has the drivers, they're not the right ones.
As you may have gathered I have/use this card for DVDRW's, it's excellent with no problems.
Whatever card you get for optical drives, it's best to aviod cards with raid abilities.

My Gigabyte MB has 2 normal IDE channels & 2 raid IDE channels. I have my 4 opticals on the standard channels & 2 HDDs on the raid channels & boot from "SCSI". Works fine.

In your case any PCI IDE card will probably be fine for adding your 3 extra HDDs, although the card from Maplins as Z has suggested is probably fine as he's using it susccessfully. I got one from ebuyer which was cheaper but a raid card with an Silicon Image chipset which I updated the bios to non-raid without any problem. Mixed results with opticals though.
