Adding Optical Input to Analog Receiver?

Is there any anything that can add an Optical Input to an old Analog receiver? Thanks.

Re: Adding Optical Input to Analog Receiver?

If one of your local Radio Shack's has one of these in stock, you are in luck:

Analog To Digital Converter

These are normally pretty expensive ($40), but they were clearanced .

If you can't find one, I bought 3 of them for no apparent reason . I'll sell you one if you are interested.

Edit: works both directions with the video aspect, but not the audio.

mike, if you look at the link I gave you, in the first post he gives you a link to check the availibility of it by entering your Zip Code.

BTW, that ADV2000 device that was linked, it is the exact same unit as the Radioshack one. The plastic casing is molded slightly different for the brand, but all the jacks are in identical places, same specs, etc. They are the same device.

Yeah you are right, I was thinking of only the video part of it.

In fact I just checked the audio part of it to see if it worked, then came back to post that it didn't work for the audio

BTW mike, what is it that you need a digital input for? If the device you are trying to use has an analog output as well as a digital output, using a digital conversion should not make any improvement in quality.

Re: Adding Optical Input to Analog Receiver?

And let's be honest - there are precious few devices out there (I haven't seen a single one) that have digital outputs but NOT analogue outputs!

Add to that the fact that this converter will probably only accept 2.0 streams, and that your device is likely to output 5.1 streams, and you have a recipe for... just using the analogue outputs.

Re: Adding Optical Input to Analog Receiver?

Very sorry guys, the email notifications did not work so I never knew you guys had made all of these posts after making my last one. I wish to control an old Pioneer Reverb's signal via my soundcard's software and to do this I will need a DAC becuase I need an optical INPUT to connect my Analog Receiver, the Optical output will be coming from my Soundcard so I can control the Analog Reverb that will be running through my Receiver by means of the soundcard's software.
