1gb memory stick problem

Hi, it just seems that I am running into one problem after another. My 1GB memory stick from Gateway keeps telling me that I can't format it because it the disk is write protected, but the stick does not have button of any kind that slides to protect your stuff like other models that I have previously owned. What gives? How can it be write protected when I don't have that option on the stick itself to protect it and if that is some how possible, then how do I unprotect it?. Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: 1gb memory stick problem

Some USB sticks come with some encryptation softwares installed on them. Are you sure that there is not any software running in background that don't allow you to reformat?

I don't know where the "adm priviledges only" part of this is, but everything else says that it's healthy and gives me the drive letter and how big it is. Nothing there to signify there is anything wrong.

Re: 1gb memory stick problem

Yes I tried to format it in disk management mode and it still told me that it was write protected. I have been doing some research on this and believe it or not it is not that uncommon. If you do a search for this you will see that I am not the only one having this problem. This also applies to certain hand helds PDA's, so go figure. There is a person that said it has something to do with Windows SP2. He went into some detail about going in to the registry and change somethings in there, but it was not that simple and frankly, I think there is something more simple than that. Also, talked to some guy at Gateway where he claims that there is something called "write protection removal software tool". Has anybody ever heard of such a think and if yes, do you know where I can get a copy from?
