What Is Wrong With Your Site???????

Sorry for the emphatic title of this post but there is something very strange going on with the CDFreaks site.

I'll get right to the point:

When you go to the main cdfreaks.com site webpage (not this forum), Firefox creates a folder named plugtmp in the C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Temp\ directory and starts creating files named flash_vote.php, then flash_vote-1.php, flash_vote-2.php, flash_vote-3.php etc. until there are about 10,000 files (YES! THAT'S TEN THOUSAND). Each is only 1byte in length with the character "1" in it. After it gets to about 10,000 files, it creates a plugtmp-1 folder and starts creating files again.

What the hell is going on??

I first discovered this when I went to the temp directory and did a right click then "Properties" and it said there were over 100,000 file. I started going thru the directories and discovered 10,000 files in each "plugtmp" folder.

The next step was to use the SysInternals program FileMon to track down that the files were being created by Firefox. Next I started closing tabs until I got to the CDFreaks tab and the file creation stopped!

Mr. Administrator, can you please check with the site developers and see what is going on? For other users, can you check & see if this is happening on your machine?

I'm running XP SP2 with Firefox v2.0.0.7.

Thanks for any help on this.

Re: What Is Wrong With Your Site???????

I am using FireFox and running XP SP2 and have no issues.

I would suggest checking the settings in FireFox and make sure things are right.

I would check for spyware are see if anything has hijack the browser.

As far as I know, the only site that does this is the CDFreaks.com page. Also, the club.cdfreaks.com page DOES NOT do this.

One other thing, when I close the tab for CDFreaks.com in Firefox, all the flash_vote files are deleted!!!!

Have you tried clearing everything and restarting FireFox?

Have you tried I.E to see what is does?

Are you running any plugin's with FireFox?

Hi, I'm also using Firefox, and Win XP SP2 and just checked on the main page (rarely go there normally). I have seen the plugtmp folder created, and the flash_vote file created... but only one file, not 10,000.

Yes, restarting Firefox just deletes the files but then they are created again when Firefox is restarted.

Opened page in I.E. but no directory/files created.

Yes, running NoScript, IE Tab, & Tab Mix Plus. It's possible that one of them is causing this.

Watch the directory for a minute or two. According to FileMon, whatever is creating the files first tries to create the same file name (flash_vote) and when this fails, creates a new file adding a digit to the end (flash_vote-1), etc.

My question is: What the hell is running on this page and how/why is it creating files on your disk. I thought only cookies could be created.

If the site works ok with IE than it is obviously a FireFox problem. Just dump FireFox. Problem solved.
