XVID to DVD Format???

Hi Guys!

I have a few videos in XVID format which I want to convert in DVD format so that I can watch them in my DVD Player which doesn't support XVID format. Can anyone tell me which is the best software to convert XVID to DVD without much quality loss and automatic size analysis.

At present I am using ConvertXtoDVD from VSO and the output quality it gives is pretty good. Moreover it automatically does the bitrate calculations. By automatic calculations I mean that if I put just one movie in a DVD, it used the whole disk space for the movie and on the other hand if I put 4 movies, it automatically calculates the bitrate to fir all the movies in One DVD, still preserving the best quality. The only drawback of this software is that it is very very slow. It encodes the movie at just 2X speed. So if I put three movies, each of 2 hrs long, it takes about 3 hrs. to make the DVD.

Thank you.

Re: XVID to DVD Format???

Encoding takes time. There might be faster encoders out there with excellent quality, like CinemaCraft Encoder, but they are very expensive and not very user friendly. ProCoder 2 may be slightly faster too, but it will still run you about $500.

If it is working, don't mess with it. That or buy a faster computer. Encoding depends on cpu speed mostly, though more ram and a fast hard drive will help. One of the new core 2 duo processors, at least 2 gb ram, and a 10,000k Raptor hard drive would probably do the trick. Do you happen to know if ConvertXtoDVD is optimized for dual processors?

What are your system specs? my 3800 X2 at stock only encodes at around 2.5x depending on the file

Not at the moment unless its in the very latest update, it doesnt use that much ram tbh its all about the CPU.

Does anybody know if any of the last versions got optimised for dual core processors? As already mentioned i get an average of 2,1x on my 3800+, it be nice to get that doubled.

Edit: moved thread to VSO forum

Re: XVID to DVD Format (ConvertXtoDVD)???

I am on Xp 64bit, do you jusr right click on the process and go to processor affinity or something? Cauze i get only 2 CPUs there, not a big list, both checked but still on 50% usage.

Re: XVID to DVD Format (ConvertXtoDVD)???

Yeah that was it; the right-click business for setting affinity - only mine was from XP. Obviously they must have been ambitious in their estimates for how many CPUs we'd all have by the time XP is end-of-life .

I use Auto-gordian-knot. It is slow as i usually put it on before i go to bed and have it shut off when its done. But it is right on to what you set it at ie 550mb for like 8 serials or movies. Clone dvd mobile is really fast, like 30 minutes for a whole movie, but it wont come close to the mb that you want.
For example I set it for 800mb & it might come out to 500mb. It is hard to figure if you want to put a certain amount of information on a disk. Well, almost impossible.
