i don't mind if it adds a few hours in encoding time if it improves the video quality

other software started by DVDRB had popularized this technique, another software use the same technique - The Filmmachine

also if they also add the function to trim the movie - like in dvdshrink

i think vso had done an awesome job w/ convertx, from subtitle option to vidoe/audio sync, the inclusion of encoding software will put this on top of list for everyone

comments???

Re: ways to improve encoding quality

Hi there,

I am not a VSO Official, but let's see if I can remember what was said in the past.

ffmpeg, I assume is free, since several applications uses it.

Now, for CCE and other high end encoders, they are not free, and VSO would probably need to have a business agreement, and or send royalty money to those companies.

VSO would have to totaly rewrite their engine, bitrate calculator, support all the formats they support now etc...

Personally, unless in a very far away future, I don't see VSO changing their encoding engine.

My personal opinion...

Re: ways to improve encoding quality

IMHO CxD does great job in balancing various issues.

Most users never note any difference in quality when converting XviD (or lower quality format) movies if compared to any expensive "professional" encoder.

Most users want to convert fast, they do not want to wait several hours for one movie to convert.

Most users want simple interface, usually drag&drop, compared to very complicated "professional" converters.

Most users are not willing to pay hundreds of $/€/£ for software that does what they want.

So - best balance for everyone.
