Questions??

When i burn a dvd and play it on my dvd players the videos are bigger along with the background at the main menu. On the image below that is the original size of the background and the highlighted red edge is what does not show up when watching the dvd... can anyone explain to a noob why this is?? How can I make it to where i can view the whole image on the background and videos?

done that already... it still comes up. I was using it with no problem and playing them on all my dvd players using maxwell dvd+r's and now i can only get one burn out of 10 trys.... but when it does burn now they wont play on any of my dvd players besides my 20$ coby dvd player... Im not understanding.... i had this problem a few moths back then i started using sony dvd+r's and then they would burn at all using those... so I bought HP dvd+r's and it worked perfect but would only play on my coby... so i bought more maxwell dvd+r's and i made about 6 dvds that played on all of my dvd players sony, panasonic & coby but then it started to say the stuff above in the log and now it only burns once out of every 5-10 trys and only plays on my coby dvd player.... does it sound like i need a new burner?

Hi,

I think 3 things:

1- Real low quality media is being used.
2- Needs a firmware upgrade
3- Get a new burner

Your drive has firmware v1.25 (Original Firmware)

Latest is v3.20

Re: Questions??

I've got an external LG (GSA-E10N, though there are newer models now), which is a great burner.

Alternatively, you could buy an internal burner and put it into an enclosure yourself.

I would try quality media (Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden), and the firmware update first though.

Re: Questions??

Hi,

Verbatims, Tauyo Yuden, Maxell (Made in Japan) are considered 1st class media, because they use Advanced AZO Dye.

They use quality products, and I guess the way they are made makes them awsome quality media.

Most other companies use cheaper material, they will burn but generate issues like freeze, skip on playback.

Also after sitting on a shelf for 1 year, some that did work will stop working.

The price for 1st class media is not that more from others, it's worth every $$$.

Also 1st class media can be burned to 8x without a glitch (Most people won't suggest any faster)

All 2nd class and cheaper stuff, I personally suggest not burning them faster than x2.0 or x2.4 (MY OPINION).

And yes, using 1st class media will eliminate several burning issues.

Maxell can be mediocre if made anywhere but Japan (next time you buy Maxell, do take a look where they're made on the packaging).

Sony can be made in a number of places: Malaysia, Austria, Taiwan, and yes Japan, but the Japanese Sonys are becoming harder to find (here in the UK, we don't get MIJ Sony at all).

For best results, as mentioned above, order Taiyo Yuden media online, or buy Verbatim from any regular store that sells media. These discs you should be able to burn at or near their rated speeds with no problems (I prefer 8x as a rule though).

A few years back, I also knew absolutly nothing about DVD media.

CD medias were all not too bad, they all played, but DVD media seems to be a totaly different world.

It's by reading all those forums, and helping others *I* have learned all the good stuff.

Welcome to the Taiyo Yuden, Verbatims happy customer club

Re: Questions??

Hi,

VSO software will burn on any media, as long as your drives supports that media.

If you wish to find out what your new burner supports, use VSO Inspector

It will tell you which media it can READ and what media it can WRITE.

Will also provide you the Brand/Model of your burner, and what firmware revision is on it also.
