Problem with CopyToDVD, please help

Hi everyone.

I got my first DVD Burner today, a Pioneer DVR-108 with 25 Datasafe Ritek G04 4 x DVD-R's. Trying to test burn a few DVD Rips to get the hang of this and i've come across a problem.

I load the VIDEO_TS.IFO of the 4.36Gb RIP into CopyToDVD with a Blank DVD-R in ready and clicked 'write'.

I'm getting this error and i'm not sure what it means. I don't suppose anyone could shed some light on what it means.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Screen shot attached:

Thank you.

Re: Problem with CopyToDVD, please help

Thanks for the reply.

When I click ok it just sits on Building Media Strutures not doing anything.

I've cleaned the log out to show just the one attempt. The log is located here:

http://www.mattrobson.plus.com/C2CD.LOG

I'm going to leave it running for about 5/10 mins, although I don't think I cancelled too soon I want to be on the safe side. Update: After 8 minutes it's still sitting on Building Media Structures with the Estimated Time: ???

Could it just be a bad RIP? If so i'll RIP it again.

I guess it will give the same error that way, but please try to burn the DVD from explorer. Just right click on the folder containing your VOB files and select CopyToDVD.

Re: Problem with CopyToDVD, please help

Trying to burn as you suggested gave the same error as before.

Quick question, does it matter that there are BUP files for every IFO file. Example:

VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO

Could that cause any problems? For every .IFO there is the same file with the extension .BUP

Thanks for all your help with this problem

Re: Problem with CopyToDVD, please help

I guess that makes no difference. I made a copy of the folder and deleted all the BUP files. Still the same error when trying to burn. Not sure how much I can take out of this folder and still leave the film intact.

Strange thing is, I can play the big VOB files fine in PowerDVD but it refuses to burn a thing.

Re: Problem with CopyToDVD, please help

The .BUP files are backups of the .IFO files, in case they cannot be read.
The problem should be inside the CopyToDVD engine, we will investigate this...

What makes me think it's not the CopyToDVD engine is the fact it fails to burn in the latest Nero as well.

Not a good sign for the RIP I think you'll agree.

That's interesting. Nero Express thinks a VOB file is missing.

I've ignored it and i'm going to let Nero burn the disc anyway. Maybe this will be my first coaster

Re: Problem with CopyToDVD, please help

Update: The burn went through fine. I've watched the movie at 32x in PowerDVD and it played back fine. The missing VOB wasn't one of the main movie files so I think it's going to be fine.

Time will tell when I watch it to check for problems.

Re: Problem with CopyToDVD, please help

Hmm, interesting. What software did you use to transcode the movie?

Transcode? Not farmiliar with that word yet

I just used Nero Express and added all the files into the VIDEO_TS folder and away it went with some persuasion.

Took some fiddling to get it playing in my stand alone DVD Player but once I got into the menu it went through the opening bits fine. I'll probably watch it this evening to check the movie is complete.

I dont know if you were serious (the smile face threw me a little of), but I will explain it anyway. Transcoding is when you use a software to compress video stream so that you lose quality but get a smaller size on the video file instead. The video stream still remians the same. Usually software used to do this is DVDShrink, CloneDVD, ReJig (open source ), etc...

Transcoding is not the same as encoding, which recreates the whole video stream from scratch. Usually encoding gives better quality.
