VSO Software Discuss, NOLF 2 fun and failure at Burning Software forum; Having sucessfully backed up Hitman2 with BW 4.2.1 I thought I'd try my copy of NOLF2. I say try, because of all the attempts I made I only ever got the copy to pass the guard module once. Having read the articles here I started with v4.

NOLF 2 fun and failure

Having sucessfully backed up Hitman2 with BW 4.2.1 I thought I'd try my copy of NOLF2. I say try, because of all the attempts I made I only ever got the copy to pass the guard module once.

Having read the articles here I started with v4.2.5 and BWABuilder from 4.2.8. Read the image and created the BWA. The BWA looked good, but not perfect as there were a few drop-outs, but from what I read here these are not important.

When I tried to write the image with the BWA the verification stage told me that there were errors in the sector headers. I decided to write the image anyway and sure enough the disk wasn't even recognised as valid when inserted. This was duplicated every time the image was made with 4.2.5. I must have made about 5 or 6 images this way and each time the same thing happened. Sometimes during the read there would be an ecc/edc error flashed up on the screen and the image process would continue.

Then I uninstalled 4.2.5 and reinstalled 4.2.1 which imaged the disk fine, well it passed the image verification stage. Then, still using the BWA from 4.2.8 I burned the image and tried that. It passed the guard module once out of the 6 times I tried. It was at that point I ran out of time and had to give up.

One interesting point is that when I tried to image the disk with 4.2.1 I left the old 4.2.5 image on my hard disk. BW made a comparison of the size of the existing image against the size of the expected image and reported that the 4.2.5 image was 100.05% of the image it expected to made with 4.2.1...

So I still have to sucessfully back up the disk. Has anyone tried using BW with a CloneCD image [made with a cue sheet] and a BWA file to do the copy? It seems that for all the praise that 4.2.5 has had it can't image this disk accurately with my setup.

If blindwrite 4.2.5 can't do it with your setup (quite possible since it only works for me if I both read and write with my new Asus CRW-5224A; fails miserably if I read with my Ltd-163 or Ltr-24102b) even though the bwa file looks ok, try the clonecd/alcohol with twinpeak method.

First make an image with ccd (default game cd profile) or alcohol saving in ccd format (securom new settings).

Then patch the ccd image with blackcheck's twinpeak tool using your bwa file.

Then burn the patched image with either ccd or alcohol (note that when you're told that the image size doesn't match the toc and you're asked what you want to do, pick the first option).

Thanks Philamber, I have downloaded the 0.2 version of twinpeak.

Having looked at the 'how to use it' part of the download page it says that I should write the image 'with unmodified subs'. Does that mean I should just do a regular burn with the 'protected game profile' or should I create a new profile for a twinpeak burn and check the 'do not correct subchanel' option?

If a new profile is needed, could I be really cheeky and ask someone to post the settings for such a profile?

No need. Just download the securom new profile from the profiles sticky on the clonecd forum. It will do fine.

Thanks again. I have them already, only extracted the Lite-On specific SecuROM NEW profile - the one with 'regenerate ....' ticked on the read so I'll use that.

Well I took your advice, philamber, and after a bit of experimentation got a good backup. I've posted the details in this thread in the CloneCD forum. Posting them here would be way, way off topic
