nealh, I have no trouble with the 163D dvd making a BWA, It does a good job of it, the problem is the 48125W it doesn't want to build a BWA at all at any speed. Prior to this last update it would build the BWA no problem. Is there some where to download the last version?

which version worked??..which one failed???

Maybe you need to do a full uninstall and clean the registry amd reboot and reinstall and see if it works

Sucks when all of sudden something stops working for no obvious reason....software developers must pull their hair out

Lite-On BWA Problem

From what I'm reading Lite-On drives have problems building a BWA. My questions:

1. Is it all Lite-On Drives- DVD Drives, CD Readers and CD Writers or just CD Writers?

2. Can I use a CD Reader such as a Plextor to read the disc and make a BWA or must I use my writer to do the writing?

What I'm asking is where is the problem with Lite-On drives? Is it in the reading part or the writing part? If it's the reading part can I use a stand alone reader to read the disc and still use my Lite-On to burn?

Obviously I'm a little confused

Thanks in advance

The origin of the BWA file is not important, however its accuracy is. The BWA tool is very time critical and a good quality drive is required to get an accurate extraction of data. From my limited experience the Lite-On DVD I have is better than the Lite-On CD-RW.

Lapinou indicated the Liteon 52x cdrw does fine making a BWA at 1-4x...faster it is not as reliable if I understand his other post...other cdrw may do it faster..he feels the Liteon cdrw (at least 52x , I guess) is better than the Liteon dvd....

Lapinou, please correct me if I am wrong

Ab Big question

has somebody made a backup of Securom 4 with Blindwrite and BWA Builderwhere he can install from ?

The game starts, but installing is not possible

(Information in the BWA Readme - outside cd specs - maybe not readable)

Yes, My copy of Hitman 2 will install from the backup in my LTD-163D, and also an LG CRN-8241B CD in a Compaq Deskpro EN. Getting the backup to pass the guard module is another thing, for more details look here.

Sorry, but I have no idea. The text in the How To BWA document says there should be 3 or 4 square bits, but mentions nothing about the large drops below the line. Some more detail in the document would be helpful, but each game is going to be different, and knowing which is right may well be down to guess work.

In my case I burned both to CD-RW and tried running the game multiple times from each. My best results came from the DVD drive, see here for more detail.

PLEASE READ POST IN OTHER THREAD

I posted a reply to this and another? Here
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread....234#post347234

I made what looks to be a Perfect bwa and image that burned and installed and played very very quickly (on 3 diff readers 2 cdRom and on lt 163D).

I think but am waiting on a response about the drops in the bwa graph are bad.. My bwa that I made has no dips. only square peaks. I also copied a link that someone else posted to version 4.2.1.2.6 this version worked great for me..

read my post for the even log and details.

hope we get this fixed.. but I am 99.9% sure the issue cant be the hardware if any version of the software worked...

If you have managed to get a perfect looking bwa that will install and pass the guard module, then I'm sure everyone would appeciate it if you emailed it to futureproof to make available to all.

now you should test using the Bwabuilder from the 4.2.4 version.
you have to try with the max settings or a low speed ( up to X4 ) .

see my web site comments..

of course a tutorial should be great.. but we have too much work for the nice upcoming feature we will add in next days...

I mailed it to FP
Also, I just made another at 4X wih 4.24.21. a binary comparision shows 99% identical. no low peaks off the curve. Going to try at max speed then prob around 24... then plan on burn testing them all.

I am really enjoying this testing a feedback support from VSO members.
Thanks tons and keep up the good work.

virus2k:
i had a similar sort of problem with my litey 32123s.
i originally installed BW 4.2.2 and using BWA Builder, tried to maka a copy. when my copy didn't work, i installed 4.2.4 to see if i would get better results, but instead when trying to create a BWA file it did what happened to you.
i then uninstalled 4.2.4 and reinstalled 4.2.2 but it didn't work.
i now use my toshiba to create near perfect BWA files (even though i have yet to create a working backup).
HOWEVER, i think that the problem may lie with the Patin-Couffin ASPI layer as 4.2.2 used version 8 i think, and 4.2.4 uses version 10. try uninstalling/removing manually the Patin-Couffin driver.

good luck

To everybody here with a Liteon 48125W,

Did you buy your Litey with VS06 firmware, then upgrade/flash your firmware to VS08?
If so, would this have made a difference to your Liteon's ability/inability to correctly create BWA files?

I don't know myself, I might be way off track. But just trying to throw some ideas around.

Liteon 40125S works...

Just to add my 2 cents worth, I successfully backed up UT2003 using my Liteon 40125S with f/w ZS0J as both reader and writer.

I made the BWA file at 1x, read at max and burned at max.

The BWA curve was nice and consistent, with no major spikes.

Only thing i had to do was make two copies of Disk 1, one without the BWA file to install with, and one with the BWA file to play with, as the disc with the BWA file would not install the game.

B/W version was 4.2.5.21.

Da-Smasha,

I'm not sure if you have seen this or not, but I posted this in another thread. I had exactly the same problem... or should I call it a success???
