Iron storm back up problems

Had any sucessfully burn a back up of Iron storm yet? Clony detected no protection whatsoever. When I use Blindread to dump the image to the hard drive it encounter read errors and the reading speed suddenly reduce to 0 kb immediately. It took more than two hours reading and yet hasn't finished so I gave up.No matter what burning programs I used the same result. I took the game CD out and I found there is a ring near the outer circle on the disc. It is some kind of protections. I never seen anything like this before.

Maybe try CloneCD using the Game CD profile? Use the Log and paste it here

I've tried last night with Clone CD v4.1.0.1. It took me four hours to read with my Lite On 24102b and encounter 25833 unreadable sectors and yet hasn't finished I should have save the log before I cancelled . I'm sure it's not Safe Disc 2 nor Securom New. It is just another uncopyable item. I have returned the game to EB where I bought it from as I couldn't back it up it will be useless for me if the original is damaged.

@gamesfanatic : According to my sources this game only has read errors like you describe as protection........
And a shitload of 'em

Well, if ur burner accepts it, try fast error skip on clonecd.
Otherwise try blindread, and just try a setting.
Or if you dare .... try diskdump (If you dont have it yet do a forumsearch), this proggie is said to dump disks with read errors very fast.

But then again, thats part of the protection, put on so much read errors that ppl tend to give up backing up this game and it works so it seems !

Greets and lemme know if you've got it to work pls ! always good news !

The HoG

PS, the read errors occur in two "ironstorm.ocd" files only, their not data files used but part of the protection.
Leave them out maybe ?!

GrOuNdHog! When I used Blindwrite v4.2.2.30 to read the image. It encountered unreadable errors. I can see the reading speed from Max suddenly reduced to 1x and my burner LED was out when it reached 97%. I left it contiued to read for two hours and it still reading. Then I cancelled it and used Clone CD v4.1.0.1 I thought it might help. Then I checked bothe sub channel data and fast error skip and set reading speed to max. The same thing happened again when it reached 97%. From the Clone CD Log I can see it encountered 25838 unreadable sectors and the burner LED went out except the HD light was on. It contiued reading for two hours then I got to bed. Woke up in the middle of the light I found the burner was still reading. It was nearly 6 hrs since I start reading the disc. The next day I tried Alcohol v1.3.5.1112 but no luck so I gave up. I also went to gamescopyworld web site it said the same protection you mentioned. I doubt that because there is a ring at the outer circle of the CD. I have no idea what sort of Protection it has. Certainly not read errors. I have a Lite On 24102b and it never has any problems with Safe Disc 2 errors except this one.

Hi,

Yeah its me again, just to make myself a little clearer.

I dont have this info from just anyone !
Before I post where I got the info, I do NOT endorse piracy, I just like to browse .nfos, nothing illegal about that, posting them also isnt !!
I do not download these releases or anything, again, I just like to see in advance (before the games on the shelves which protection is on there, if its an impossible one, saves me some euros ! )

This is a piece of the Iron Storm release by deviance, only THE biggest group in that scene ! there have I got my info ....
But heej maybe your disc got an unique protection just for you !
For everyone else in this world its just read errors ?! :S :S

greets peeps !

PS : this is not to diss you, but its just that it seems like your a bit stubborn, everyone says its read errors only you have to have a reason other than that that your copy doesnt work so you make up one hell of a new protection!
Dude ! its just read errors, take some time, sit back, relax and enjoy ! its burnable easy enough !

greets once more and respect to you !

Iron Storm

It may say just read errors, but this game is tricky. I had no trouble with the read and writing went smooth. I used CloneCd and BW to see which would work. Neither. You can install from the back up, but can not play. the game gets hung a startup screen and tehn disappears. I tried this in 2 different computers. With A Tosh SCSI DVD to read and Plexi 2410a to burn, then with the Plexi to read and write. Then I tried Panasonic DVD and Liteon 481248. No dice. There must be something else on this disk.
It only scans as read errors, but I have never had trouble with read errors doing this. Usually just takes longer to read.
Has anyone else made a back up of this game that plays?
THe game is not bad itself it is a buggy one though. Needs a major patch. But it was fun to play even with the bugs.

Can't scan the disk to determine protection It won't show one, you need to scan the exe. in the dreamcatcher/ironstorm folder. If you scan that you will find that the protection is..........

...sounds like ProtectCD 5

If you force Error Reading (FES in CloneCD) to "on" then a PSX disc, in most cases, will have 'error sectors' throughout the disc, and I mean throughout the disc where it takes a Toshi 1402 about 10 hours to read! Turn it off or to auto and it takes <2 mins. There are also other rare protections that do the same like PhenoProtect. If you treat SecuROM 4.8x the same way, you may get two errors right at the end of the read, which depending on your reader, writer and media, may or may not give you a coaster. This is one reason why Olli introduced "Automatic" FES into CloneCD.

I've never been convinced about these so called "Read Errors" as a stand-alone protection and *no offence GrOuNdHoG*

It's a bit like the "CD Checks" throw-away line at GCW, that they include for nearly every late-release game - they either end up as SafeDisc 2 or SecuROM *new*. Infrequently, it turns out to be ProtectCD like Cossacks EW (non-US which is SD2) which uses errors, both subs and a 'CD Check' which is just verifying that the CD is loaded.

I'm still open to discussion but who develops and sells "Read Errors" as a protection?

Developers who cant afford to license commercial protections frequently do. Its mostly found on European Versions of small European Developers.

So I take it that Iron Storm is protected with LaserLock and not Safedisc 2.8

created a back-up of both Iron Storm and Robin Hood both by Wanadoo and both using the same protection, whatever that may be, with no problems just takes a while to read the image about 10 mins.
used CCD 4.1.0.1 game profile but changed bad sector scanner to 500, used liteon 24102b to read and write, however image wrote with liteon 24103s and plextor 2410a are also fine, image created with plex is also ok but takes a lot longer to read. If you are burning using clone game profile make sure to disable aws if using liteon or other 2 sheep burner. Or you can disable aws on the device settings then it does not matter about profile aws setting.

for me the clonecd log is the same starts read error at 807 and ends at 10148.

So maybe they are using more than 1 copy protection method depending on location. 3 different copy scanners report SD 2.8.10 on mine. There are no rings on either disc.

no not in EU, but it most certainly is co-published by wanadoo and dreamcatcher at least thats what the disc and start-up credits say anyways

Crash-bot try reading with the Plex but turn off subs this should increase read speed (not sure if this protection needs sub reading and plextors are slow sub readers with CCD) I will try Robin Hood without subs and let you know

more easy and quickly

CLONE 3341 + PLEXTOR 241040A (READ) + LG HL-DT-ST CD-RW-8160B (WRITE) COPY ON THE FLY

READ

SUBCHANELS ON (BOTH)
FES ON
BAD SECTOR SCANER ON (10000)

WRITE
ONLY CLOSE SESION AND BURN PROOF ON.

THE COPY IS READY IN 8 OR 10 MIN, the Plextor is very fast to FES and the Scaner.

in the 60 to 100 % are dummy files, but don't worry for the time market in the CCD.

copys totally operatives in any reader tested.

ok, C'ya
