How to force BW 6 to use the topology?

In some kinds Blind Write 5 / 6 doesn´t use the topology file ("Media topology ignored"). There are some copy protections that I can´t backup, because I can´t make BW to use the topology, expecially with my Plex Premium.

If I use BW 4 it all works fine, because BW 4 always writes the topology if I want it.

Is it possible to force BW 6 to write topology, maybe with a start parameter?

I suggest you to look for the tweaker, you will have more control on it.
and also use some other non officile profiles

@Powerhero
As far as i know/experienced all non-Securom topologies will be ignored with BW5/BW6.
BW5Tweaker won't help with that (it first has to be "adjusted" for BW6 anyway).

P.S.: What other protections are you talking about ?

The CD protection "VOB Protect CD", which is often used here in Germany for games and applications, can be 1:1 reproduced by a Plextor Premium CD Writer.
This only works with BW 4, because only BW 4 always writes the topology if I want it. So I think it doesn´t make any sense to limit functionality of BW 5/6 to only write securom topology. Some more freedom of choice for the user may be helpful. Users love it to experiment, which sometimes leads to unexpected success...

AFAIK current 'Protect Disc' versions don't use special physical characteristics anymore; only harsh blacklistings

Re: How to force BW 6 to use the topology?

I don´t know version 6 for CD / DVD, but writing a special topology works for all CD ROM based versions of this protection up to version 5.

Of course it´s no problem for me to use BW 4 for that, it is still installed on my PC, and I will use it further for that.

@Portmac
I don't own a Premium. So when using Premium method you can force BW trying to embed any kind of topology (not just Securom ones like when using Autoplay/EZ-Play) ?

You can force the software to use any BWA file for any image, weather using a Plex Premium writer or not.

No matter whether i use the Tweaker or an own profile Blindwrite 5 tells me for non-Securom topologies: "Media topology ignored"

Sacred (ProtectCD), G.T.R. (Starforce, of course copy won't work anyway)

Re: How to force BW 6 to use the topology?

That is the reason why I startet this thread: it only works with my old BW 4.5.7.49 - with the right topology a copy of sacred (and all CD based protect CD games) runs like the original CD.
You also need the firmware 1.05 for the Premium, with a later version the CD was unreadable.
But with BW 5 / 6 I have no luck anymore...

Re: How to force BW 6 to use the topology?

And how do you extract the correct topology if i may ask?From what i know Plextor Premium cannot reproduce absolute density values.This is one of the main reasons why Premium cannot copy Starforce.The Sacred bwa from what i know is a straight curve without any regional density sector anomalies that can be reproduced via the securom way.Thank you in advance!

Re: How to force BW 6 to use the topology?

Sometime in the year 2004 I found out by accident, that one special topology I have created works with ALL (!) CDs that use Protect CD, so I never needed to extract topology again. Not for games like Sacred, Sacred Underworld, Devastation, Arena Wars, Ankh or any Data Becker application software. They all worked with this one special topology, which I only have to copy to the folder which contains the image files and rename it accordingly, so BW4 can use it for writing the CD.

This BWA file is NOT a straight curve without regional density sector anomalies as it should be. Why it works, I really don´t know, but I tried it on many CD ROM drives since 2004, and it works successfully on about 90% of all drives.

I don´t know if the forum rules would allow me to publish this file here, but if Portmac would like to offer it for download on his page after testing it, I would agree with it.

If you send me the file I will add it to my site, use the "Submit BWA file" option on the site to send it to me.

I did check your bwa file with Sacred and had a 50% success rate.(worked with Plextor 716 and NEC 3540 didn't work with Plextor Premium and Asus DVD-ROM).That is quite strange since Plextor Premium should work only with Securom >4.87(and till the older versions of the Securom v.7 and not the newest ones but this is the subject of another topic) and should not work with Protect CD,Starforce,etc for the reason i mentioned before.(at least with the present form of the bwa files and the way Premium is used to reproduse the original's topology).Anyway any reply from your side about this issue would be more than welcome!
