Convertxtodvd no longer works for me.

I used to use divxtodvd and now convertxtodvd. They both have been great. For awhile now I either get access violation codes(if I'm lucky) or much more often it freezes up my pc during the conversion process. Iv'e converted a lot of avi to dvd in the past but no more. Recently, I uninstalled, removedall the folders I coild find that were left behind, logs, and in regedit everything I could find that had any thing to do with vso, rebooted, reinstalled and froze up my computer again about three minutes into the conversion process. I did the regedit thing because yesterday after I did a clean uninstall and deleted all the remaining files, folders and logs I saw something peculiar. I reinstalled and when I was setting up to try again it remembered and wanted to write to a folder I used months ago even though it didn't exist. It wanted it to be the output folder. Of course, it knew it didn't exist and offered to create a new one but he point is that somewhere it is keeping records that should be gone. Maybe it is keeping a record that tells it to screw up each time after about three minutes of converting too. Also, because it freezes there is never a record in the log of why it failed. In fact if you read the log everything looks fine. When I go to the output file after rebooting both the audio and video folders have files of 0 bytes each. Iv'e pretty much ran out of ideas so I'm here. I have not found any problems like this discussed anywhere. One last thing, I just now reinstalled ACE Mega Codec Pack Pro 6.03 after having been without it for awhile. It may be the solution, I haven't tried it out yet because I'm getting so burned out on the freeze-restart-frustration thing. I'm using windowsxp. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you in advance, xxxzzz893.

Re: Convertxtodvd no longer works for me.

Could be a virus, could be a broken codec somewhere that's crashing and taking CXD with it.

There is also badly cracked versions spreading.
I bet that half of these odd problems come from that.

Adding to "Convertxtodvd no longer works for me."

Thanks guys. I should add that if I try adding an older version (that required no registration) of divxtodvd , it no longer works either. I continually run Avast antivirus Pro in the background, keep it updated, and periodically run full system scans. I also run Spybot Search and Destroy, Lavasoft AdAware, and Microsofts Windows Defender regularly. Thanks again, xxxzzz893.

the ace mega codec pack hasnt been updated in a while, if the movies you are converting were encoded using newer versions of the codec this could be causing the problems.

Maybe some of these are conflicting or mis-interpreting what CXD is doing and killing the process. It's generally not recommended to run several programs that all try to do the same job, especially when that job is intercepting program calls. Isn't Defender still in beta?

I'd suggest you disable all the above stuff and try again.

Re: Convertxtodvd no longer works for me.

Thanks again guys.
Some of my avi's are very old, some are very new, and about all ages in between. It won't even convert one that I have converted in the past. That leads me to believe that it wouldn't be the ace pack at least in some instances.
None of the spyware programs are set to run in the background. They only run when I open them up, and run them. I never run either of them congruent with any other program including divxtodvd or convertx.... Yes, Defender is still in beta.
Any more ideas? What am I missing?
Thanks again, xxxzzz893.

Re: Convertxtodvd no longer works for me.

Most users have Defender and other programs running all the time.
I have Defender, Norton AV, SpyBot and SpyBlaster. All running in background - no problems converting.

Only problems I have had with codecs has ALWAYS been after trying some codecpack!
So - do fresh windows install, then install FFDShow, AC3 codec and any special codecs you need/use. No need to install any packs. Just install new codec when required.

Re: Convertxtodvd no longer works for me.

Thanks JJ, I disabled Defender from running in the background about a month after I got it. However I did install a codec pack awhile back. Recently I uninstalled it but I think you are probably on the money. Now bear with me here, do I have to clean my hard drive to reinstall windows? I've not done that in over a year and have forgottten how to go about reinstalling Windows. Thanks again, xxxzzz893.
