I finally found a file with some:

warning Audio discrepancy in input stream at 1221175.26 ms: 24.01 ms of audio missing errors in it.

As you can see, my file only had 6.

If there is an out of sync issue, I barely see it.

The log R3VOLV3R showed us at the begining of this threat, he wad 12 of them, so I am assuming more you get those, worse it will get ?

Also notice we both had 24ms and not a higher number.

If this number was real high like 500ms I assume the out of sync issue (So it seems) might be very significant.

VSO has received a copy of this log, and a copy of this .AVI hoping they can see something wrong with ConvertXtoDVD.

If someone else has files with lots of those missing audio errors, and has a big out of sync issue, please send those files to VSO for analysis.

Email ---> claire_at_vso-software.fr (Replace _at_ with @)

My 2 cents...

Re: ConvertXToDVD - No audio sync problems UNTIL 2.0.9.119

Unless I'm mistaken replicating this problem is dead easy! I have found that all that is needed is any one of the following:

1. Save a section of an AVI with VirtualDub.
2. Use "Full (audio) processing mode" in virtualDub.
3. Merge a file in VirtualDub (with a WAV audio file).
4. Add an audio stream with VirtualDub.

I'm sure there are many other ways (maybe it's caused by VirtualDub but I doubt it.) Those that have the problem obviously don't all use VirtualDub.

Any of the above when processed in VSO cause the audio 24ms issues & they are at about 90 seconds. By the time a full length video is at the end it is many seconds behind in sync. They were fine under the earlier versions.

Also as others have said V2.0.5 worked perfectly. V2.0.9.119 & also V2.0.10.121 both suffer the same problem.

Maybe common sense should outweigh technical necessity. As already said "if it ain't broke then don't fix it".

Just made another DVD with ConvertX and no sync problems. That's now 2 perfect copies without sync problems from 2 attempts.

I think you will find that unless VirtualDub (or other software) has been used to merge, enhance, etc. then you won't have any sync issues.

Merging avi files with AC3 audio into one avi converts to dvd just fine.

The problem lies with avi files merged/edited with vbr mp3 audio. This (hacked/weird) avi screws up the new audio sync routine vso is using.

I dont use VirutalDub. All I use is AVI-Mux GUI to ensure the .avi has 0 second delay then off I go using ConvertX.

Re: ConvertXToDVD - No audio sync problems UNTIL 2.0.9.119

I think it is the rule of GARBAGE IN, GARBAGE OUT.

If you have a problematic AVI file, you need to put it into a hospital, get it better, then convert it.

I would look at demuxing the A/V streams, checking that the video has proper timecode, which can definitely throw off sync. I routinely use DVD Lab to demux using their fine tool, REWRITE GOP TIMECODE. This has in all but one case, saved the day. I'm sure there are plenty of other free tools out there that do the same thing.

Unfortunately, once you have a separate audio and video that you have fixed, CXD has no ability to accept them, as-is, for making a DVD. Yet, I have done this to hand CXD a good input just so I can get a PAL DVD converted to NTSC.

(1) Strip down A/V stream.
(2) Fix video, if needed.
(3) Fix audio, if needed.
(4) Make a interim DVD from the above, or make a AVI from the above.
(5) Use CXD to convert the PAL to DVD.

i have that problem only if the audio from the movie is VBR instead of CBR!

Re: ConvertXToDVD - No audio sync problems UNTIL 2.0.9.119

I guess I might as well post here also, I videocapture using Huffyuv w/ PCM audio and v2.0.8 and newer all have audio sync problems while v2.0.7 and older do not.

Here's the link to my post explaining the problem and giving more info...

Re: ConvertXToDVD - No audio sync problems UNTIL 2.0.9.119

Does v2.0.13 fix the audio sync bug introduced in v2.0.9?
As of my testing v2.0.12.c still has the audio sync bug.

Thanks for any info on this.

The bug I noticed (audio errors leading to sync issues when processed with VirtualDUB) started with V2.0.6! I have tried every release up to V2.0.13 & they all had this annoying problem.

Every time I have to reinstall V2.0.5, this was the last version that does not have these problems!

Anyone found similar results?

Re: ConvertXToDVD - No audio sync problems UNTIL 2.0.9.119

I videocapture using Huffyuv with no dropped frames and ConvertXtoDVD v2.0.9 - 2.0.12c have the audio sync bug.
These version introduce audio sync error that makes the audio go out of sync around 100-300ms.

Using TMPGEnc, CCE or Virtualdub w/ Xvid gives no audio sync problems.

A perfect videocapture using Huffyuv is as close to perfection you can get videocapturing using S-video in from satelite.

There's just no reason for ConvertXtoDVD to be having this problem...

Log of conversion would be very helpful.
Simple fact is that most users have no audio problems when their files are good.

Problems are most often seen with video capture - close inspection of those files reveal that they do not contain continuos audio stream. They have gaps in audio with sync markers marking spot where next bit is.
This kind of audio can be played just fine with software player - but when converted, they cause problems.
Most converters separate audio from video before converting. This causes sync problems because audiotrack is separated and it does not contain as much data as needed.

When encoding DVD - there must be continuous stream of video and audio.

Hello JJ,

Wow, that was a great explaination on why some input files get out of sync, and it's not ConvertXtoDVD's fault

Now I understand a little more why those kind of files generate lots of issues

Re: ConvertXToDVD - No audio sync problems UNTIL 2.0.9.119

You should visit Doom9.org forums, then maybe you would know what your talking about.
The only time you should have any audio sync problem is when dealing with vbr mp3.
And it has already been established that v2.0.8 or older do not have this bug.

PS: lot of pro's at the doom9 forum

Re: ConvertXToDVD - No audio sync problems UNTIL 2.0.9.119

Neverlift: explain to me how audio can be spread over longer time than there is audio data without resampling and changing pitch if not by leaving gaps?
I have used many video producers, and NONE of them resampled audio when I added extra video. Some refused to spread audio, leaving it shorter. (which is correct!)
Only way to spread audio over longer time than audio track is originally without resampling is to use gaps. Those gaps are usually so short that human ear can't hear it.

And reason for why it "worked" with older versions was also explained by VSO, they did not check for audio data lenght vs video data lenght, they just separated tracks and remuxed to DVD specs, causing audio sync problems but logs looked clean. More about this is in other topics.

Re: ConvertXToDVD - No audio sync problems UNTIL 2.0.9.119

Ya well my videocaptures convert fine using CCE, TMPGEnc.
Virtualdub also works fine when converting to Xvid. (use Nandub if using VBR MP3 for muxing the audio)
Again the only time AVI video should give audio sync problems when being converted is when your dealing with VBR audio.

So you're telling me the newer version of ConvertXtoDVD has tried to work better with VBR audio and in effect... it has caused this bug?

If they know about the bug since v2.0.9 then why have they not fixed it or when are they planning to fix it?

Re: ConvertXToDVD - No audio sync problems UNTIL 2.0.9.119

Thanks

I'm very happy using an older version at the moment thou, I will get around to testing v2.0.13 and newer soon.

I been playing to much Guildwars Factions and have not even been videocapturing or encoding this past week.

I simply love the speed and quality ConvertXtoDVD has though and have gotten several of my friends to use it now.

I hope DRM and the FCC with their digital broadcast flag or what have you don't ruin Fairuse.
