Am I Wasting My Time?

I think I might start a new business selling these really cool, 'signed by the artist', coaster sets. If anyone is interested, e-mail me - 'rant off'

Sorry about that but after so many unsuccessful attempts at backing up UT2003 and following all available instructions to a 'T', I am frustrated. My image file seems to have sectors that have uncorrectorable errors according to Blindwrite's HD Image check. So I am forced to ponder whether the problem at hand is with the hardware I am using.

I have an old generic EIDE 56x cdrom reader CR-856E (that does read subs) and a Sony 8x CRX-140E. Is this my problem?

Below is the log:

as you can see your image should look like that.....

also if you need further help i suggest useing my bwa from the sticky thread

also install bw 4.2.8 then copy its bwabuilder.exe from the root place it in a temp folder then uninstall bw and reinstall version 4.2.5 then copy the bwabuilder.exe from your temp folder back into the bw root folder !.....

you need to get your image fixed read at a slower speed on image creation !......

Thank you Virus, I really appreciate the help.

Unfortunately I made yet another set of coasters...

I made a new image at 1x and burned the image at 4x and still it does not work. Perhaps it is my hardware that is the problem?

When I burn the image the log shows a successful burn. Then I restart my machine and put the newly burned UT2003 backup into my reader. The reader spins up and down and accesses the hard disk for three to four minutes and nothing happens. When I open 'My Computer' to see if the disc is recognized the my computer window is blank and it will eventually say 'Not Responding' at which point I must end task and remove the cd from the drive. Then all of my dektop icons and taskbar dissappear for five seconds and then pop up again and everything is back to normal. It is very bizarre.

Let me list my equipment:

Asus CUSL2 MB with Intel 815E chipset
PIII 800E
512 MB PC100
Maxtor 19 GB ATA 100 7200 hard disc
Maxtor 25 GB ATA 66 7200 hard disc
EZ Quest Cobra+ 60 GB 7200 External firewire hard disc
ZIP 250 USB drive
PNY VERTO NVIDIA TI 4400 Geforce4 128 MB DDR
SIIG Firewire PCI card
10/100 NIC PCI card
Aureal Sound Card
Viewsonic 17" A75F
Altec Lansing ATP3
Generic EIDE CDROM Reader CR-856E (can extract subcodes)
Sony CD Writer CRX-140E

Let me list the latest event log with the better image:

As you can see the image is much better since I switched the read speed to 1x, however the disc did not work. This brings me to my next question: I used the BWA you provided in the sticky that is for the European version, but I live in the U.S.A.
Is that why it didn't work? I made a coupla BWA's myself but they were damn ugly!!!!

So, am I just SOL or do you think I can get it to work?

And allow me to thank you for your time and bright insights, I truly appreciate it.

Hey mate your still creating a EDC error when creating the image..

if you can fix it to where there is no errors and no sector header errors then it will work 100%

i think your hardware is incompatible with bw... image creation...

my sugestions would be getting a new drive to do the reading and the writeing !! the liton`s are cheap

if you get one my sugestion would be the 52246S its the best drive i have had as well as the 48x liteon

im trully sorry i cant help

here is my last try ! at helping you if it dont work mate you need new hardware...............

why dont you install alcohol 120% then make a image with it of your UT2003_CD1 but remembering to make the image in BLINDWRITE format..... so that way you can burn with blindwrite aswell as do the image verification to make shure the errors are gone ....

please reply back with your findings...

Lee........

Again I thank you for your assisstance, Virus.

Unfortunately, the alcohol 120% would not allow for any other format than .mds (which I assume is the native Alcohol format that would be incompatible with Blindwrite, yes?)

So it seems I must purchase some new hardware... it's about time anyway

Thanks again for your advice, it really helped!

your only getting mds format becuse your selecting the Securom NEW profile in alcohol !

pick protected disk or normal disk and then you should have the choice if you want to save image as .MDS or .BTW or .BIN

chose .BTW and do the image at half your max speed....

heop this helps.....

That was definitely MY mistake!!!!

I assumed that choosing securom was the correct way... oh well.

Nonetheless, I ordered an LTR-52246s for $62.99 (US dollars, almost the same as a Euro) and an LTN-526 for $26.00 from Googlegear.com. It seemed like a good deal, two new drives for under $100 dollars. Any last advice regarding the new burners that you might pass on? I have never had a burner that can be flashed like EEPROM but it sounds really cool! Especially considering that when new chipset versions come out for 60x and 70x, I might be able to overclock the burner to those speeds later, yes?

Thanks again for your help, Virus. You are in the UK, yes? I was just in Belgium a few weeks ago and it was damn cold!!!!

Oh yeah, one last thing, I can use your European BWA from the sticky with my USA version of UT2003 and it's no problem?

Thanks, Virus. I hope the moderators recognize you for your willingness to help others. It is both rare and extremely valuable trait, Virus.

Perhaps I can help you out one day!!!

well mate for starters your getting the stock 6 series drive that means you can when the firmware comes out flash it to a 52326S

gaining the fast 32x cdrw speeds though this is a test if its based on teh MeadaTek chip Set it could be flashable to a 7 series chipset becuse vertualy the 52327S only difrence being 7 series chipset......... but it may be possible

and yes all liteon`s can be flashable to new updated firmwares aslong as there in the same series

on to ya next question...

yes you can use my bwa file for your usa ut2003 when you get your new 52x liteon you should have a probelm at all

and its no problem im glad to help....

@ViRuS2k

i dont have a setting to make an image to BTW (blindwrite) in alcohol v1.4.0.103.

the only ones available are MDS / CCD / BIN&CUE / ISO.

i checked under both: General Protected CD & Normal CD profiles.

besides that - i cannot select the DPM setting when these profiles are selected. when i choose Customized profile,, i can select the DPM setting, but cannot save as BTW image.

is this a bug? a software error? just me? bad installation?

hmm well i was assuming there was hmm possibly they removed it in the newer versions !

try a older build mate............ if its not working or you cant find it then you will need to keep at it with bw to do the backup !
