It's suppose to do that. It is part of the SafeDisc copy protection. They should stop around sector 10,500 and then speed up again.

you should also not burn at max speed - try reading at 8x and burning (this is important!) at 4x - many people have problems if a safedisc 2.9+ protected game is burned faster...
also, the read-speed depends on your drive, for example if i try to read a safedisc game in my toshiba it would take hours to get through the error-sectors, if i use my plex premium to read and set read-speed to 8x it doesn't take more than 25 seconds to pass the errors....

... and:
i don't know what burner you have, but try searching here a little bit - with many burners you will get a better (more perfect) backup if using the safedisc profile (not safedisc 2/3) because the efm-correction in the safedisc 2/3 profile is not a real 1:1 backup...
and important (becuase many people do this failure): don't play the backup from your burner, it won't work in 99% of all cases - do this ONLY if you have a hide-atip tool running (such as alcohol running with the option ignore-media-type enabled)...

Thanks raz.
T tried backing up iron storm @ 1X safedisk 2/3
with no success.
I have an LG CD-R/R-W drive.
I’m new at this but from what I understand I should try
safedisk and not safedisk 2/3 ?
Thanks again. ice

ok, so first at all: do you really know that this game is protected with safedisc? (i just don't know it...)
if not, try a protection scanner - search the forum to find those tools...
if it is safedisc up to 3.10 it is good - you should be able to back them up using the safedisc profile in alcohol at 4x speed read and write.
if it is safedisc 3.15 you probably won't be able to back it up...
i guess that it is not securom because of your report of read-errors....

please tell us more about your system: which burner (model), what mainboard, operating system and so on...

you see, if you bring all requested information we can help you better...

This game actually uses three different forms of protection, the type depends on location:
England/Australia= Ring ProTech (both cd's)
German=LaserLock
U.S.=SafeDisc 2.80.010 (Disk 2)

Please excuse this slight correction to Kamikazee's info.....

The german version of Iron Storm (at least the one that I own) has Ring Protect. Other threads in this forum substantiate this also.

The US version also has Ring Protect on the first disk, Safedisk 2.8 on the second (as Kamikazzee stated).

If Alcohol doesnt work for you with the Safedisk instead of the Safedisk2/3 setting, then CloneCD with IBSS checked works well (as an alternative) with the Ringprotect protection, and I found Diskdump/Fireburner combo to work well with SD 2.8. These are of course only alternative suggestions, as I dont know if you have access, or desire to use a different software. CloneCD can be used in the Trial version, DiskDump is free, but Fireburner costs to register, and I believe it only emulates burning until it is registered. You could of course, try CloneCD with the Safedisk protection also. Many have had success. Profiles can be downloaded on this forum.

If there are read errors in the first 2 - 3%, it's safedisc not Ring Protech. If it were Ring Protech, as it is downunder, not only would the ring be visible on the cd but the read errors would not occur until about the 97% mark.

>The US version also has Ring Protect on the first disk, Safedisk 2.8 on the second (as Kamikazzee stated).

Not so. No-one pays for 2 different commercial copy protections. You should simply take kamikazee's word for this since he is a US resident and does extensive testing for various programs (most notably blindwrite). If it's the US release, it's safedisc.

I tried running an image file of the second cd made with alcohol set to safe disk 2/3
on the virtual drive provided by alcohol, and it worked fine,
leading me to believe alcohol is copying all the data.
I herd from this forum that the physical drive has a way of detecting cds that have bean copied and will not play them.
With the software suggested do I have a better chance of it working well enough to fool the cd drive.
Like I sed I think alcohol is copying all the data, only issue is the physical cd drive.

Also did anyone see anything wrong with my hardware or drivers.

@Philamber

Please dont get me wrong....but I was trusting Kamikazzee on the US version....

Check out the thread on Iron Storm back up problems....(do search) He posted pics from CloneyXXL showing disk one with ring Protect, and Disk 2 with Safedisk 2.8

You are right about one thing though....I dont have the us version to test this...I must trust that Kamikazzee knew what he was doing...which I do.

PS ...it was the 53d post from 54.....post 54 from Philamber dated 19072003

Nope. I just didn't believe clony (and I don't think that kamikazee does any more with that one either ).

I ran CloneyXXL the second cd detected safedisk 2.8 in about .8 seconds
The first cd after 2 minutes came up with no known copy protection. WTF

I also tries clonecd and could not find any specific protection settings
I probably have the wrong version of clonecd what version were you guys
talking about

one other thing is it ring protection that will not let me play the game
cus when I install the game seams that all the data is there,
and when I play the image file of a virtual drive it works fine.

If it's the US version then that's correct. It is not copy protected, so you get "no known copy protection".

CloneCD is a better gross error reader than Alcohol but it is hardware dependent. If you post a log from Alc or Clone we can tell what it's trying to read.
