Alcohol Discuss, Safedisc backup with Alcohol at Burning Software forum; I'm having a problem getting a working backup of Nascar Thunder 2003 with Alcohol. The game has Safedisc 2.8.?? so I used the Safedisc 2/3 setting of Alcohol. The disc seems to copy fine, but when I insert the backup CD a message pops up asking me

Safedisc backup with Alcohol

I'm having a problem getting a working backup of Nascar Thunder 2003 with Alcohol. The game has Safedisc 2.8.?? so I used the Safedisc 2/3 setting of Alcohol. The disc seems to copy fine, but when I insert the backup CD a message pops up asking me to reinsert the CD and restart the application (or something to that effect). I'm using version 1.4.8 of Alcohol, and my burner is a Lite-On 32x. I tried BlindWrite 5.??? and the backup worked as far as playing the game, but I uninstalled the original and tried reinstalling using the backup and it would get to 8% and a message would pop up asking me if I was sure I wanted to abort set up...even though I hadn't hit anything. It did that every time. What am I doing wrong? Can Alcohol or BlindWrite backup this game and use it for installing, too?

Backup with a lite-on 32x cd-rw should work, so try this:

- firstly, have you enabled hide cd-r media in the alcohol emulation tab? You will need this if you are playing the backup from a burner

- secondly, try reading and writing the image at 4x speed instead of Max. Also, use the safedisc profile rather than the safedisc 2/3, since the latter is used in conjuction with burners that do not support correct EFM writing. The lite-on 32x should write EFM correctly.

This should work, but if not post back your results

Retried burning with Alcohol

I backed-up the game using the Safedisc setting instead of Safedisc 2/3. This time the backup worked for running the game, with the installation from the original CD. However I tried installing the game using the backup and still end up with the same problem. This time it gets to 6% and asks me to put in Disc 2. There is no Disc 2. Am I to assume this game can be backed up to run the game as long as the install is done with the original CD, or is it some way possible to get the backup to play and install just as well as the original?

Make a backup of the CD as a normal CD with Nero or something. people have had trouble installing games from a SecuROM disc(me being one of them), so make 2 copies for the disc, one for installing and one for playing.

thats strange, you shouldnt need 2 copies for a safedisc backup. What cd-r media are you using? Also, what ide drivers do you have installed because they can cause games not to work (especially nvidia).

Media Type

I've been using a Lite-On CD-RW. I figured I'd use CD-RW until I got a working copy.

No you shouldn't need to, but since it has happened with SecuROM games he could give it a shot. It could also be a bad image.
