problems with alcohol 120%

hi i currently use alcohol 120% and tried to make a backup copy of a movie have just purchased. when i opened up the diologue page to set the parameters none were showing and when i went to the copy page the error message said the files were to big to dump. for some reason it is not picking up the dvd correctly. As i had read a fair bit here about clone dvd and any dvd i thought i would give them a go. however i had to use the custom button to lower quality to fit on a 4.6 gig disc. I could find nowhere that i could first do a similation so went ahead and copied. It seemed to copy ok but came up with an error message on playback, itwas somwhting like:
Warning
failed to read dvd:
several reasons: 1) media dirt 2) media damaged 3)drive is a region locked RPC22 drive 4) your drive has not been asigned a region try http://rpc1.com
i have used it before to copy so cannot understand this. can anyone have any suggestions.
does anyone know why nearly all the buttons may have disappeared on alcohol etc
I am using 2 liteon dvd drives drive d is a dvd reader and drive e a dvd r/rw
i have a celeron 2.g system with 1 gig of ram
thanks

Re: problems with alcohol 120%

Alcohol cannot backup CSS Protected DVDs due to legal restrictions, you will need something like AnyDVD as indicated in the post above.

Re: problems with alcohol 120%

Sounds like bad media. Try using high quality media, most playback problems are attributed to this.

Especially when the discs don't play on either your computer or standalone dvd player.

Re: problems with alcohol 120%

Yup.. Either bad media, or you are using a -r dvd in a player that only handles +r's, or visa versa. Go to www.videohelp.com and look up your standalone dvd player to see which media types it prefers. Also only use good quality media like verbatim or taiyo yuden.
