New Alcohol - my DVD drive has disappeared!!

I have installed the latest Alcohol v1.4.3.518 and my DVD Rom drive has disappeared from My Computer - no software will find it.

I am unable to enable it through Device Manager and Nero Registry Checker will not solve the problem. I have uninstalled the Alcohol and Nero, reinstalled the Nero with no joy. I have also rebooted.

I am using Windows XP (no SP1) and the DVD Rom (LG DRD8160B) is connected to the Secondary IDE Channel just like my CDRW which is working fine.

Any ideas?

I solved the problem by uninstalling the device in Device Manager and rebooting. Windows found the drive and installed it.

Re: New Alcohol - my DVD drive has disappeared!!

I understand, my drive up and went missing as well. As for the device manager, I've already tried that road and it's not even showing I had a drive to begin with. The only place I am seeing my drive is the system info "history" which, as far as I can tell, is unable to be altered.

If someone could perhaps lead me in the right direction?
I really don't want to drag the 'puter out and open it up. I just rearranged the whole space.

Cheers!

Re: New Alcohol - my DVD drive has disappeared!!

ok, I just had the same problem. All my drives disappeared from "My Computer", but were visible but not working when I looked in Device Manager.
This is the only thing that got my drives back:

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
2. Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
3. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
4. Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
5. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
6. Quit Registry Editor.
7. Restart your computer.

NOTE: After you remove the Upperfilters value and the Lowerfilters value, if you notice lost functionality in a particular program, such as CD recording software, you may need to reinstall that software.

I didnt have an UpperFilters value so I just deleted the Lowerfilters value and rebooted. Voila, my drives are back

Hope it works for you!!

Re: New Alcohol - my DVD drive has disappeared!!

I lost my CD-RW/DVD-RW Combo Drive after installing a pesky programme for my new i-Pod ---- i-Tunes!
The i-Tunes programme works very well but ...... No more CD/DVD drive.
I tried everything, Device Manager, uninstalling stuff, reinstalling stuff.... I asked the advise of wise and learned men, young and old, geeks and straights, to no avail.
Then, glory be, I stumbled upon your wonderful blessed miraculous site!!!!!!!
I simply followed the detailed advise posted by "unseendr" on 06/10/2005 and it worked first time !!!!!
May the blessings of Allah, God, Jehova, Buddha and the Dalai Llama be with you, my drive is back.
May the plague and pestilence be on i-Tunes for taking over my comuter and hiding my CD/DVD
