Harry Potter & Alcohol don't mix well...

As I was saying...trying to back up my six year old's copy of H.P and the Chamber of Secrets before he frisbee's it, is proving problematic. Iused the securom 4 new setting. Must one correct efm by ticking it as it doesn't issue it by default?

I've not encountered any probs with anything else until now

What are the proper settings for SD 2.8 010? ( using alcohol 120% liteon 52sX read/image/copy image )?

Thanks

I'll try that as I've got that version of Clone, thanks.

Between my first post above and this one I also tried Disk Juggler - I'm up to my fifth coaster.....Harry Bloody Potter like the first one (philosophers brick) is proving impossible (PSX1 I forgot to mention). I wouldn't mind, but what nags me is all the other safedisc 2 prots aren't any problem to me or rather my burning set up...I wonder if it could be something hardware oriented???

Meanwhile the original copy I've noted wasn't "saved" in time as there is a few scratches on it and something resembling hubba bubba chewing gum at the edges....kids eh? couldn't eat a whole one!

I don't see why Alcohol won't copy your game? Just use the default profile for SafeDisc 2 (for both dump/write), and don't forget to untick the Bypass EFM errors as your LiteOn writes EFM codes correctly. Try to burn at lower speeds like 8x.

Probably because he tried to use the "securom 4 new setting".

...very trying

Indeed I did Philamber but only after trying that which Vio Man refers too (er exactly in fact); also I've just had a clone coaster read and written at X1

Young Potter, or more precisely EA (it's in a game) is starting to get right on my wick.

(I've only got six disks left till the shops open tomorrow

For God's sake man.....use a re-writable CD for your experimenting!
Why create coasters??

If it's psx1, use the playstation settings not the safedisc 2 settings.

new media

I've came to the conclusion that the damn thing can't be backed up. I tried Verbatim media too, reinstalled alcohol cleaned registry the lot....my final conspiracy theory only for the want of anything else to blame is the Liteon's S608 firmware. Maybe it's so "powerful" it defeats the software's ability to not correct - and thus corrects the data I don't want it to...well it's only a theory?

What I do know is every copy is OK in terms of using the swap trick ie the game plays inperceptibly in comparison to the original. But it just won't boot post boot disk. The problem lies squarely in the begining of the lead-in - it just doesn't "catch". Now I'd be interested to see if the back ups I thought were coasters would actually work with a mod chip boot. I use a PS X-Change disk version 2 to boot which is supposed to be "stealthier" than the stealthiest mod chip but I wonder.....

Taiyo

Incidentally backing up Fifa 2002 (EA Games) was a 2 minute job with Alcohol 120% with the internet connection on and a firewall!!! From what I can gather, there is no physical difference in these two games ie. Libcrypt and standard 96 sub thingeys.

Gosh, I wish I wasn't so stupid,

I have a LiteOn 48246s cdrw, I have used it with CloneCD/ClonyXXL for a while now, worked great.

I just got the trial version of Alcohol 120, and if "it" is the answer, I will happy to get the full version.

So,, with Alcohol 120, do I need CloneCD anymore? And do I need ClonyXXL to determine what protection is on a cd, or is there something "better" ? Does Alcohol "detect" the type of protection ?

And with H Potter 2, I tried a couple CloneCD backups , [before I got Alcohol ] and it would install, but not open program, will try an Alcohol burn.

Not if you don't want to use clone anymore, but I wouldn't get rid of it, Yes you will need clony xxl although there are other's such as yates and yaps and safedisc analyser. No alcohol does not detect protection. You may want to try Blindwrite also, it does not have a protection scanner but it does report what type of protection is used on a game and recommends settings if it is in their database. Use their trial also.

Yeah, Taiyo had me confused too but if you look at his second post in the thread you'll see he's talking about the psx version so I amended the title of the thread.

well,, since I am here, Do I need to "detect" the type of protection with PS games using Clonyxxl, or are they all the same, just set Alcohol at the PS setting ?

I have never done a PS game before

With alcohol, just use the Playstation/Playstation2 settings for whichever game it is, but to run backedup Playstation games, you either need a boot disk or a mod-chip.
As far as I know, its not possible to make a backup of a Plasystation game without having to use a boot disk or mod-chip.
Prehaps someone else can shed some light onto that?

Taken from the Alcohol Support Forum FAQ.

Q:How can I backup my ps2 game disc?

A:PS2 game disc have 2 types

A. PS2 CD
- 1. Put your PS2 disc into source cd-rom/dvd-rom. Then Using Alcohol 120% Image Making Wizard.
- 2. Please choose datatype as Playstation 2, then starting making image file.
- 3. If you have writer, you can burn this image file to cd-r. But please pay attention to you must choose datatype as Playstation 2.

B. PS2 DVD
- 1. Alcohol 120% doesn't support DeCSS function, so you must use another software to DeCSS(like DVD Decrypter).
Put your PS2 DVD DISC into your DVD-ROM, then running DVD Decryptor, choose source DVD-ROM as that you put PS2 DVD disc into. Ok, you can close DVD Decryptor, because DVD Decryptor has DeCSS this Disc.
- 2. After DeCSS, please use Alcohol 120% Image Making Wizard to make image file.(Please choose datatype as Playstation 2)
- 3. If you haveDVD-R/DVD+RW writer, you can burn the image to DVD-R/DVD+R/DVD+RW/DVD-RW Disc.
(PS. PS2 only support DVD-R/DVD+R/DVD+RW/DVD-RW(only newer PS2 mode) media, and PlayStation2 SCPH-30000 mode or newer mode has better ability of reading DVD-R/DVD+R/DVD+RW/DVD-RW media.)

Notice: If you want to play backup ps2 disc on your ps2, your ps2 must have been modified.
