Cyberdrive CW038D and Civilization 3 Conquests (SD2.9?)

Ok... Stumped...

I've tried to make a copy of Civ3: Conquests using Alcohol 1.4.8.1222.

1) I can mountan image of it with Bad Sector Emulation on, and it works.

2) Take emulation off, and it crashes the game (right when it would ask for CD).

The burn has the same result as (2)!

I'm burning is as 'SafeDisk 2/3' option, and I've checked (by website list) that it is SD2.9(and a bit! - cant remember)

Is this a problem with my CD-RW Drive? Can it not 'make' bad sectors? Can any?

Bare in mind that it is quite an old drive (32x12x48)

Before you say... I've already tried it at speeds as low as 4x, and different options, resulting in 8 new frisbees.

Cheers.

Your image is bad. A good image will run when mounted on a virtual drive without any form of emulation. Do you have any other reading device? If so, try reading with that.

Further, your cdrw is a 0 sheep efm model so you'd need a lot of luck to get a burnt copy to work without emulation in any event.

Oops....

Sorry Philamber....

My mistake - I just tried taking the Bad Sector emulation off, and it still runs (assuming image is good then)...

Do you reckon its this '0 sheep' problem then?

Forgive the newbie like question:
0 sheep?????

Everyone seems to think lite-on is the best way to go... do they not have this problem? worth me changing? (I was going to get a faster one anyway)

Cheers again

Yes.

Yes.

Relates to writer's accuracy in efm encoding of regular bit patterns based on old clonecd ratings. 0 sheep - bad. 1 sheep - OK. 2 sheep - good.

If you want to do much copying of recent copy protected games, yes and Lite-on is a very good choice. Consider also Asus CRW-5224A partnered by Lite-on dvd rom (handles nearly everything).
