If anyone could please help me:

I have Alcohol 120% version 1.4.0 (build 103) on my system thanks to a friend that thought it might be useful to me. Nevertheless, I never use it and it is now posing as a conflict when I try to run a new game I received as a gift (NFS Underground 2).

I would like to uninstall Alcohol due to the non-use of the program and the hopeful opportunity to play my new game. Can someone please direct me how to do this? Also of interest, will the deletion of the Alcohol program automatically delete anything that it copied onto my system?

use the uninstall routine under system properties-software.

I wish it were that easy but I can't find anything system properties related or uninstall related anywhere. Hence my posting. I notice the posting prior to mine regarding a 1.9.odd version using regedit. Can someone please direct me to the proper registry files to look for and to delete using regedit for my 1.4.0 version?

As the Version that you have installed is so old i can only recomend searching the Alcohol Forums for clues to the virtual drive names, it is so long here that the only clue i can give is that they will be drink related e.g vodka, whisky etc.

I've tried every normal method of uninstalling the program and the only way I can see working is like the former post by DixieNormous on May 7th of this year that was answered by Phoenix and that's by going into regedit and deleting the registry files. I tried to look for the ones listed in the thread mentioned, but due to the different versions, the registry files are different too.
Help?

If i was u. I wud delete the alcohol folder in program files. Go into regedit, search alcohol and delete remaining registry things leftover (do at your own risk, be careful!!!). Then see if your game works.

I can't delete any alcohol folders. I'm prohibited from doing so because of "another user or program using...". I've thoroughly searched my computer for anything uninstall related and I've also searched regedit thoroughly, to no avail.
As mentioned, if anyone has the registry keys for ver. 1.4.0 available so I can delete like in the post mentioned earlier, that would be fantastic.

Hmmm... you cant delete something in the alcohol folder cos its locked by a different program, try booting in safe mode and deleting. If that fails use moveonboot http://www.snapfiles.com/get/moveonboot.html to delete the locked file while booting before the program locking, can even start up.

I doubt youll find anything to do with alcohol 1.4.0's registry as its such an old version...

Thanks for all the suggestions. It would seem that now my only remaining folder showing Alcohol is in My Documents called Alcohol 120% and the only thing it contains are the .mdf and .mds files. I can't seem to delete them as the error message says that one of the .mdf files is being used by another person or program. I'm sure this pertains to all 4 .mdf files, but the one that pops up saying it's being used doesn't have a corresponding .mds file in the same folder. I'm confused. I'm good with computers, but not THAT good.

Does this mean that the original Alcohol program is still on my system or just that the new game I want to play is still detecting the files listed in the folder I mentioned? Either way, how do I delete a folder and/or files that are of the .mdf and .mds extensions type. I can't rename the folder to try to hide it from the new game either. It pops up an error message saying that I have to make sure it's not full or write protected or that the file is not currently in use.

I've read all the posts and followed all the directions given in the links given, but nothing seems to do the entire trick of getting fully rid of the Alcohol version 1.4.0

Once again, (yes, I'm even annoying myself with my repeated requests), HELP?!?!!?

Did u try deleting the things in that folder with moveonboot or in safe mode???

If so, that is all my knowledge used up, maybe someone else can help??

Only soltion i can think of is format or take the game back or contact alcohol or if anyone else has ideas??

Success! (kinda). Thanks to your suggestion of moveonboot, I have fully deleted the files and folder Alcohol 120% that I mentioned. When I do a windows search for anything named alcohol, it turns up nothing. However, the game still won't run and still pops up the same error message.

Suggestions? PLEASE?

Well... i shud have asked you at the beggining.... are you sure its alcohol? it cud quite possibly be daemon tools or clonecd or blindwrite, or a bad removal of the prior.

Cmon.... can someone else help this guy out here???

If possibly it is one of the other programs you've mentioned, wouldn't I have to manually install them and know about them as I did with Alcohol?

You can look up the driver name in your registry at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi\

Check each Scsi port for the driver names. If you see some unusual driver name (not Atapi) it probably is the one from the Alcohol installation. Like Robbo said, it probably is some drink related name.
If unsure, you could post the drivernames here, and then it could ring a bell for some people

Edit: have you tried booting Windows in safe mode? Because then it should ask you to load the driver or not (and show the name of the driver). Maybe that is the safest way to get the drivername.

More people have problems uninstalling Alcohol. I recommend you go over to the alcohol forums and let people there help you. They are helping people at this very moment ( last response yesterday ).

well as this is such an old version and well past the trial version 30 day limitation, i woudl hazzard a guess its not a legal version, as many things get alterd with non legal versions its possible non of our advice will help could be time for Formating your hard drive.
