Alcohol wont start '2'

OK, I have gotten used to re-installing Alcohol.

I recently (a couple of months or so) bought a copy of Alcohol. It was working beautifully, what a great program. I was a user of "the other (BW)" backup program but was converted.

OK, so I am using Alcohol and one day I turn my 'puter on to discover that oddly when I click on the icons nothing happens?

I go to the Alcohol directory thinking the short cut was bad.....nothing. I then un-install 'A120', restart, re-install and the same thing, no A120!

This time I un-install, re-boot, delete any reg entries, restart, re-install, re-boot and what do you know it works! (First time this happened I actually re-formatted my computer thinking 'hardware/drivers', that was a long day!)

So there I am, happy again for a week or so until, (you guessed it) same thing happens.

I un-install, re-boot, delete any reg entries, re-start, re-install, re-boot and what do you know, it works again.

Now i'm thinking that I have the trial version or something, so I down load it (retail updated) again, re-instal and it works again........... then about a week later same thing happens.

By now the routine is: if A120 fails to work I un-install, re-boot, delete any reg entries, re-start, re-install, re-boot. I can actually do this very quickly now.........wouldn't it be great though if I didn't have to?

I have emailed the 'guys' at Alcohol a couple of times but no reply? I guess they are busy trying to beat Tages or something.

Can anyone solve this problem, dont get me wrong, I think A120 is great and i'm not complaining about the program. I would just love to be able to get it to work every time.

Sutto.

Have you tried Alcohol's own forums, you are bound to get a better response from them. When I had a problem it was responded to in the forums within a few hours.

I'm sure the problem is not caused by Alcohol. You must have any problem with your Windows (virus, trojan...) which is causing the problem. You should look for the cause. Install a good anti-virus software, update it and let it scan your system.
Also make sure you shutdown your computer properly, as it may cause data loss.

Virus!!!

Lvsitano, Thank you, your feelings about this seem to be correct.
I had a virus! Never had one before (in about 5 years). I am using an anti-virus program for the first time aswell.
I have reformated and discovered most of my backups are ruined.
It seems I have had the virus for 6 months or so without knowing.
Thanks again
sorry for accusing A120 for the problem

Nice sentiment, but we are not a redirection service. Maybe one of the reasons some CDFreaks members were asked to be beta testers? Believe me, if it's beyond us, we do ask for a post at the Alcohol Official Forums, but we try before that. A quick scan of the beta froum shows that. No offence mate but we're all on the same side.
