| alcohol trial unistalation attmept crashes system Hello, I have a problem with finishing unistalling the newest version of alcohol 120% trial (1.9.5.4212). The only things realated to it that keep remain after every unistalation attempt are entrys in device manager: + SCSI and RAID controllers\vaxscsi controller (device is working properly) + CD/DVD drives\WX2013E VHI662A SCSI CdRom Device (device is working properly) and + System Devices\Plug and Play BIOS Extension (yellow "!" icon, device is not working properly because of incomplete or invalid registry entrys). Now the trick is that I have already done everything that is mensioned in support forum threads on either alcohol soft. or cd freaks forums (those included: deletion of alcohol and vax related registry entrys, unsuccesfull search for vax related files in windows\system folder - there were no such files in there remaining, removal of starforce drivers using the offical tool). The problem began when I tried to uninstall new Alcohol for the first time using unistall program tool - InstallShield aplication freezed itself and entire system at the very end of the process, leaving partialy removed alcohol with some registry entrys after the reboot. After manual removal of registry entrys and deletion of program folder i have no trace of alcohol itself - just the scsi drivers it provided and PnP BIOS Ext. (but as I said with no trace of related files in WINDOWS\system directory or windows registry - those devices are only visible in device manager). When I try to unistall those remainigs from device manager here's what happens: + vaxscsi controller - disappears from device manager along with WX2013E VHI662A SCSI CdRom - unistalation proces seems to be succesful but both are back after reboot! + PnP BIOS Ext. (wich has yellow "!" near the icon) - aplication and computer freezes (CPU usage goes 100%, everything slows down terribly - hard reset neccesary, the very same way InstallShield did at the end of it's process) (i waited for quite a long time and nothing changed). When I reinstall Alcohol it installs and runs ok but uninstalation attempt ends the same way (no. of devices set to 0) - with system crash, and I have to repeat the whole procedure of manual cleaning to be able to install it again. I've also uninstaled Daemon Tools, and Nero 6.6.0.0. which was present before. The only forum post related to the same problem I have found here: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=76501 it's a post from krad21 at the bottom of the topic - with no replies to it. I hope you can help me up removing this annoying remainings because I am out of ideas at the moment. Martin P.S. | Re: alcohol trial unistalation attmept crashes system Looks like you've had a previous version installed as you have a left over virtual drive. You should remove this either by reinstalling the previous version and setting its number of virtual devices to 0 or by removing it manually. The first way will probably fail due the expiration of that particular trial version. Have you tried to install the latest trial version? |

| Re: alcohol trial unistalation attmept crashes system Don't know what the problem was. But it's fixed as I just had to reinstall system anyway. I tried installing and unistalling alcohol now and it's ok. Maybe it was fu?!#]+ starforce from the beggining...... |

| Re: alcohol trial unistalation attmept crashes system Hi my friend had 9 virtual drives and uninstalled Alcohol 120 without removing the virtual drives. This caused his system (laptop running xp home) to reassign all 9 virtual drives to physical drives. I have not been able to find any posts that explain how to fix this. I am not comfortable removing registry keys unless I'm reasonably sure that is the only way. Thank you in advance for any help. Pismojoe |

| Re: alcohol trial unistalation attmept crashes system Download the standalone SPTD installer from www.duplexsecure.com and run that to remove the virtual drives. |
