Alcohol 120% Sim City 4

I normally use Clone CD to make backups but I guess it doesn't support SD 2.8

Anyway, I tried Alcohol 120 for the first time ever to discover that creating a working backup of Sim City 4 (Which uses SD 2.8) is a piece of cake. It ran perfect on my other pc's Cool app! I have a lite-on so that might be why it was so easy.

Too bad that Ollie says that CloneCD will never be able to clone discs protected with SD 2.8. I really liked that app. I guess it still works for a lot of other protection schemes.

BTW, did anybody read the interview with the lead Alcohol developer? He said that he named alcohol after a Spanish word that is supposed to mean "Spirit". I'm a native spanish speaker and "alcohol" translates to "alcohol" (yes, just like it!) I wonder where did he get "Spirit" from? hehe.

Do you have "ignore media type" option enabled?

Check it out yourself:
www.cdfreaks.com/news2.php3?ID=1082

This is an excerpt of it, Ollie is answering the question:

Quote:
Now for the interesting question: Will CloneCD ever be able to overcome this problem?

Well, you can answer this yourself: I guess not. Okay, you can probably do nasty tricks like modifying the pattern. But this isn't what CloneCD is about. It is called CloneCD, not PatchCD. In opposite to the belief of some people, CloneCD does not cheat or modify data in any way. I like to keep it this way.
He also said:
Quote:
I must admit, this is a very, very cool protection: Something is on the original which can be read, and not be written. I really didn't believe such a protection is possible.
I guess that for Ollie it's more about principles than enything else.

this is what it says

This is a forumpost by Olli. He explains why Clonecd will not be compatible with Safedisk 2, only on certain drives.
and
Quote:
For example, writers based on Philips hardware (Philips, Fujitsu/Siemens, Acer, just to name a few) are NOT affected by this at all. With such a writer, you can copy SD2 with any CloneCD version, and the copy will run on every CD-ROM.
So it just goes to say that clone will work on sd 2.8 with some writers and that they are limitedc
